The next phase of the Clean Air Plan in London
From 23:59 14th March there will be changes to the Clean Air Plan, as we increase our focus on helping drivers use the funds of over £145 million already accumulated to transition to an EV. In brief, we will be stopping the Clean Air Fee, but adding new benefits for EV drivers to support the switch to more sustainable vehicles.
What does this mean for drivers?
The Clean Air Fee will no longer be applied to trips in London.
Rest assured, if you have accumulated funds you’ll continue to be able to use this EV assistance to help you buy or rent an EV via the existing approved vendors. For more information on how to do so, see here. We are continuing to work on expanding the number of EV offers available to help drivers switch, check out the latest offers here.
If you already drive an EV, you’ll no longer receive Clean Air Fees added to your trip payment – instead we’ll be boosting the rates drivers receive on Uber Green trips. From 23:59 14th March until the end of 2022, you will receive 15% higher rates (compared to UberX) on all Uber Green trips. In addition, in Spring 2022 we will be expanding the area that Uber Green is available in from Zone 1 to the whole of London.
What are the benefits of driving an EV?
We know that changing vehicles is a big decision. If you are considering making the switch to an EV, then here are some of the benefits we provide to help you with the decision:
- Special discounts through our partnerships with Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Otto and WeFlex, whether you’re looking to buy or lease your electric vehicle – find out more here.
- Access to discounted charging when using bp Pulse’s public charging network, as well as Uber-dedicated charging points at a series of rapid charging hubs in London – find out more here.
- Discounts on home chargers from bp Pulse, PodPoint and EO – find out more about all our charging deals here.
- Once in an EV, you can earn higher rates for all trips on Uber Green. From 23:59 14th March until the end of 2022, Uber Green driver rates will be 15% higher than UberX rates. Find out more here.
With over 5,000 of all Uber drivers in London already driving fully electric vehicles, we’re excited to see that early progress in London has been particularly strong. We think that’s not just because it’s good for the environment, but because there are also great advantages to driving an EV, such as higher rates on Uber Green trips, lower running costs and exemption from the Congestion Zone Charge.
If you have any further questions about the Clean Air Plan, or what these changes mean for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via the ‘Help’ section of your driver app. We’re here for you 24 hours a day.
