The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority taps into Uber to connect 3 counties and extend transit service on nights and weekends
September 9, 2022 / GlobalUber Transit is proud to participate in the relaunch of TD Tampa Bay with the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) to connect residents of Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties and extend transit service on nights and weekends with renewed funding from the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged.
Building upon our success with PSTA on the TD Late Shift program launched in 2016, TD Tampa Bay will provide even greater transportation access to low-income and transit-dependent residents traveling to and from work, medical, school, and other essential services. Residents of Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties whose income falls below 200% of the poverty line are eligible for the program. For example, a resident with a household income of $27,180 or less may qualify for subsidized Uber rides.
How it works
Eligible residents can independently book Uber rides using the Uber app. For just $6 per Uber ride, eligible residents can take inter-county trips across Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties, Mondays through Saturdays from 7am to 7pm.
The readily available Uber network of drivers in west central Florida allows PSTA to serve community members that rely on public transportation across an entire region.
“When the state funding was canceled last year, I know a lot of residents who relied on the service to get from Pinellas to Tampa or Pasco to Clearwater were left stranded. So this time, all three counties worked collaboratively and I’m grateful to the Commission for approving of this new regional approach.” —Brad Miller, Chief Executive Officer of PSTA, in Paradise News
