Starting today, rides booked through the Uber platform are cheaper in Geneva and Lausanne.

Moving around the lake is getting more affordable: starting this Friday, February 26, the price of rides booked through uberX is 20% cheaper in Geneva and 15% cheaper in Lausanne. Prices for uberX rides are now the same in Geneva, Lausanne, and Zürich.

Mobility for everyone

Lower prices means affordable mobility for a greater number of inhabitants; safe, reliable and cheap transportation should be available to everyone rather than a luxury for the few. This decision will open access to services that were totally out of reach to a wide proportion of the Geneva and Lausanne population because of their prices. The Uber experience across the world also demonstrates that by encouraging affordable and reliable forms of shared mobility dissuades people to use their personal cars: since Uber offers an easy way to move around, why would you take your own car, adding to the traffic and then spend hours roaming around in search for a parking spot?

Enhance revenues for drivers using the Uber platform

Experience proves that cutting prices boosts demand: the figure below demonstrates that thanks to lower prices, drivers using the Uber platform benefit from a significant increase in new passengers. Average fare for each ride tends to decrease, but drivers work more and see their overall turnover go up. In Chicago, New York or more recently in France or Germany the same causes led to the same effect. The chart below shows the progression of hourly revenues for Uber partners in NYC from 2012 to 2015: three consecutive price cuts led to a tangible increase.

Increase the number of rides also allows drivers to better organize the time they spend behind the wheel: rather than spending a significant amount of time waiting for the next ride, Uber partners see their density of work come up over the same period of time.
