uberHOP Moves Toronto’s Neighbourhoods
Written byIn December, uberHOP launched in Toronto. Neighbourhoods across the downtown core were introduced to an exciting new option that lets riders share their trip along Toronto’s most popular peak-hour routes.
Fast forward 3 months and uberHOP is now serving 6 neighbourhoods with 8 direct routes–all at flat fares. By providing efficient options to these areas that have less access to transit, uberHOP is helping people move more conveniently throughout their weekday routines.
Last year, only 29% of Toronto’s employed labour force used transit (any form other than a car) to get to work. We hope that with options like uberHOP being introduced, Torontonians will continue to rely more on ridesharing and less on their personal vehicles to help reduce congestion in our city. So far, we’re on the right track!
“uberHOP has significantly improved my commute. It’s a much more convenient way to work and for the price, it’s a no brainer. The drivers are all friendly and it’s a great way to network with other professionals. From here on, I’ll only HOP in the mornings and afternoons.”
– Nick Di Paola, uberHOP Rider
“UberHOP is an exciting new initiative that will offer an affordable and convenient new transportation option for the Fort York neighbourhood. Along with making the daily commute easier, this ride-sharing service may also foster new friendships when neighbours share their ride with each other.”
– Vicki Trottier – Fort York Neighbourhood Association President
“CityPlace has been underserved by transit and taxis. Uber has seen a need in CityPlace, and other neighbourhoods, for our rush hour residents and acted upon it. CityPlace is modern and forward thinking, so is Uber. Uber is a right fit for CityPlace and Toronto.”
– Dean Maher – Founding Coordinator/Facilitator, CityPlace BIA; Founder (Past President) & Director, CityPlace Residents’ Association; Founder & Neighbourhood Advisor, Fort York Neighbourhood Association
A city is alive because of the people who call it home, and transportation plays a big part in keeping us all connected. With so much to see and do in TO, it’s important that the way we move evolves as quickly as our city.
