Ordering with allergies in mind
If you’re one of the millions of people around the world living with a food allergy, chances are you have to think about it every day. In fact, it’s pretty likely you’ve had to pass on a dining experience or two.
That’s why we’re excited to introduce allergy-friendly filters, a new feature we’re rolling out globally in the coming weeks to make it easier for people with allergies or dietary restrictions to order with Uber Eats. Here’s how it works:
- You can filter and find restaurants that are allergy friendly.
- When choosing a dish, you can easily communicate your allergy and dietary restrictions to these restaurants through the app.
- If a restaurant can’t accommodate a request, they can message you and provide an opportunity to order another item that fits your needs.
We’re excited to make it easier to find more of what you’re looking for on Uber Eats and are focused on building more features that address issues important to the communities we serve.
We all have a role to play in reducing the use of plastic. Research suggests that single-use plastics harm the environment by disrupting the productivity of natural systems like our oceans and clogging urban infrastructure. If current trends continue, one study estimates that by 2050 the plastic waste in the ocean will outweigh the fish.
Today, we’re taking a step forward to help reduce plastic waste.
In the coming month, you will now have to request straws, utensils and other additional items when you place your order. Restaurants should no longer include them by default.
We know this is just a first step towards the reduction of plastic waste, but we’re excited to think more about how we can do better for our planet and the impact of food delivery around the world.
