Ottawa Leads the Way with Ridesharing Regs!

“Uber applauds the City of Ottawa and the leadership of Mayor Watson, Chair Deans, city council and city staff for being the first jurisdiction in Ontario to adopt a progressive regulatory framework that embraces ridesharing.

The new ridesharing rules are good for riders, good for drivers, and will lead to better transportation options in Ottawa.

The constructive approach demonstrated by the City of Ottawa to modernize its transportation laws can serve as a model for all Canadian regulators and elected officials.”

Since Uber’s launch in Ottawa in 2014, it has always been our goal to operate within a regulated framework within the City of Ottawa that recognizes the ongoing changes in technology and transportation. In the eighteen months since our arrival in Ottawa, Uber has become an integral part of the Ottawa’s transportation ecosystem and is now relied upon by over one hundred thousand residents to move around the city (not to mention many thousands of visitors).

The platform is making a positive impact on the local economy, providing income for 2,000 driver-partners who now depend on Uber as a source of family income. Over the coming months and years, we are eager to work in partnership with the City and local organizations to advance the role technology can play in improving transportation and supporting the community.
