To celebrate National Blood Donor Week and in recognition of World Blood Donor Day (June 14), Canadian Blood Services is partnering with Uber Canada to make donating blood and plasma easier for people across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) by offering rides home to donors. On World Blood Donor Day, the goal for the GTA is simple: fill every donation appointment. To help meet this challenge and the need for new donors, Uber Canada is offering a promo code (up to $25*) toward an Uber ride home from select donor centres and mobile events across the region on June 14. No donation is required. The promo code is valid for one trip per account (up to 1000 total redemptions), on June 14, 2025, between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.
“Convenient transportation can be a barrier for donors, especially for new donors who are navigating the experience for the first time. That’s why we’ve partnered with Uber Canada—to help make it easier to give,” said Eloise Tan, Vice-President, Inclusion, Sustainability, Engagement at Canadian Blood Services. “Whether it’s your first donation or your fiftieth, this World Blood Donor Day is the perfect time to experience what you get when you give and help us fill every appointment across the GTA.”
“Uber Canada is proud to support Canadian Blood Services in their life-saving mission by helping to make it easier for donors to give,” said Michael van Hemmen, General Manager of Mobility at Uber Canada. “A simple ride home can help to remove a barrier to a donation, so on World Blood Donor Day, we’re encouraging all those eligible across the GTA to book an appointment, and let us help get them home safely and conveniently.”
This initiative is part of Canadian Blood Services’ goal to recruit one million new blood and plasma donors across Canada over the next five years. That means reaching younger, more ethnically diverse communities of potential donors—especially in Canada’s largest city. The GTA is home to more than 5 million people, yet only approximately 112,000 regularly donate – a gap that needs to be filled to sustain a growing and aging population, and to support advancements in clinical care that require more blood products. Each week, nearly 2,000 donation appointments go unfilled across the GTA.
From 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 14, visitors to select Canadian Blood Services donation centres and mobile events across the GTA will scan a QR promo code (valued up to $25) valid for one Uber ride home*. The offer is available at the following locations:

- Oshawa: 1304 Harmony Rd. N.
