Uber to expand across British Columbia in early 2025
Written byUber will be expanding its ridesharing platform across BC in early 2025. To prepare for this expansion, we will begin encouraging British Columbians to sign up as drivers.
Driving with Uber is a great flexible earning opportunity for those with a safe driving record. People can earn money on their own terms, they control where and when they work, and are free to use other apps at the same time as they’re on Uber, and choose which trips to accept. We are offering a $500 incentive for eligible drivers who complete their profile and take 10 trips within the first 4 weeks of when we launch. For those interested in driving, they can visit uber.com/drive to learn more.
For British Columbians and visitors, Uber offers a safe, affordable and reliable transportation option at the tap of a button. Whether it’s a ride across town to run errands, to get to work or school on time, or a late-night ride home after an evening out, Uber helps people get where they want to go. In a recent survey, 81% of Canadian riders say safety is an important reason why they choose to ride with Uber and 77% say options like Uber help reduce impaired driving.
“British Columbians and visitors alike are constantly opening the app to try and find a ride just like they can in most cities across the country. It’s time that residents across the province have the same access to rideshare as they do in Vancouver, Victoria, and Kelowna to help get them where they need to go, when they need to. And for those with a safe driving record, a flexible opportunity to earn money on their own time. While the app will be available across the entire province, rides will only be available where drivers actively sign up and go online to do trips. We’re looking for drivers from Nanaimo to Fort St. John and everywhere in between.”

Since launching in the Greater Vancouver Area in January 2020, we are proud to partner with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada, Hope Air, and the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association (BCRFA).
“Despite the fact that it has never been easier to get a ride home, hundreds of Canadians are killed and thousands more injured in crashes involving alcohol or drugs. Together with Uber Canada, we’ve been working to bring that number to zero. Ridesharing has been vital in the fight against impaired driving and soon more British Columbians will have this transportation option to get them home safely. No matter how you get home, we are proud supporters of all rides that get you there safely.”
- Steve Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer, MADD Canada
“Hope Air assists thousands of individuals and families across B.C. each year, with medical travel support to reach hospitals far from home. Together with our airline, hotel and meals programs, Uber ground transportation is a trusted and highly valued program, delivered through Hope Air for patients arriving at airports then travelling safely to their hospital appointments. With Uber’s expansion across BC, Hope Air will be able to deliver better health outcomes and ensure equitable access to health care for people living in underserved communities across the province.”
- Mark Rubinstein, Chief Executive Officer, Hope Air
“Uber’s rideshare has contributed significantly to our industry, giving British Columbians the option of a sober ride home after enjoying a meal or night out. Uber has also been a game-changer for those working late night hours in the hospitality industry, helping them get home safely after their shifts. We are thrilled to hear Uber will be expanding across the province. The addition of Uber in smaller regions of BC will be a welcome addition to tourism, the BC wine industry, and an incredible convenience for families.”
- Ian Tostenson, President/CEO, British Columbia Restaurant and Foodservices Association
In May 2023, Uber received approval from the BC’s Passenger Transportation Board (PTB) for a licence transfer from another rideshare company to operate across the province. We launched in Victoria and Kelowna in June 2023. We plan to launch across the rest of BC in early 2025 and will provide information when available.
