BC, you’ve moved us.
Written byIn the recent months, we’ve been humbled by the overwhelming support shown by British Columbians for Uber and ridesharing.
This fall, over 25,000 of you opened your Uber app in search of a ride, nearly 50,000 of you signed our petition, and we’ve since seen nearly 3,300 personal emails and 1,000 tweets of support sent to Premier Clark, Minister Stone, and Minister de Jong encouraging smart ridesharing regulations for BC.
Here’s some of the support British Columbians shared with your provincial government about bringing ridesharing and Uber to the province:
“As a low income person with a visual disability I am limited in transportation options. There have been improvements to city transit in Kelowna which I am thankful for… [but] I am writing to ask you to support the ridesharing programs such as Uber in BC. It would make a huge difference in my quality of life and my opportunities for success as a disabled person.”– Kevin T, Kelowna
“Please support Uber. I have used it in Montreal and London, even in Nairobi, Kenya. As a single elderly woman traveling alone these experiences have brought a level of safety and security to my travels. This is not an ordinary taxi experience. My mother is 97. She would use Uber!”– Helen R, Vancouver
“Technology is moving forward, and as a city that claims that “The Future Lives Here”, Surrey is behind the times. It’s time to bring innovation to Surrey and Vancouver. We need Uber in B.C.”– Jamie L, Surrey
“On Hallowe’en night in Edmonton my stepdaughter and a friend called a taxi. No one even answered the phone at dispatch. I opened the Uber app, pressed “set pickup location” and 4 minutes later – FOUR MINUTES – the driver was outside the house. I had a similar experience in Seattle in July. It’s time [for] the BC government to embrace this new technology.”– Ralph R, Kamloops
“I deserve choices here in my own city – the environmentally positive choices which I enjoy when I travel in many other cities. Please allow Uber in Metro Vancouver.”– El O, Vancouver
With over 350 cities in over 60 countries around the world embracing Uber and ridesharing, we’re excited to quickly work with the province to bring smart regulations to BC.
Thank you, BC for your continued support. You’ve moved us, and we can’t wait to someday move you.
