Rules and regulations
YUL Regulations for driver-partners
Per YUL regulations, driver-partners must adhere to the terms below. Failure to do so may result in the receipt of a citation or even restriction of access to airport trips. Please note that Uber will not pay for any citations that driver-partners may incur.
When on airport property, the Uber driver app must be open at all times (driver-partners must not go Offline until exiting the airport area)
We’ve instituted a special first vehicle in is the first one out (FIFO) system at Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. The FIFO system only works within the designated, geofenced area and driver-partners waiting elsewhere will not receive trip requests through the Uber driver app.
The Uber vehicle decal (trade dress) must always be displayed on the rear passenger window facing outward. Driver-partners can obtain this Uber decal at their local Uber Centre.
All trips need to be requested, completed and paid for through the app.
Driver cancellations: Trip cancellations can take away from the great Uber experience that both riders and driver-partners expect. Please remember that driver-partners who improperly use the app and intentionally disrupt the service, including excessively canceling rides or asking riders to cancel rides, may lose the ability to receive trip requests to and from the airport through the Uber Driver app.
Ground transportation and airport security staff: Airport rules are as important as traffic rules. Airports expect Driver-partners to follow the instructions of the airport staff.
Based on the operating agreement with YUL, Uber partners are not allowed to use facilities and areas reserved for taxi and limousines.
How pickup requests work
Pickups at YUL
It is easy to receive trip requests from riders leaving the airport. However, these trips work a little differently than other requests.
Waiting for requests
At YUL, Uber’s technology uses a first-in-first-out (FIFO) queue. This means that, in order to receive a trip request, you need to enter the designated waiting area, located within a “FIFO zone”. You will then be placed in a virtual queue where the first driver-partner to enter will be the first to receive a trip request.
Based on the operating agreement with YUL, the waiting area is located at the CellParc 2, only a few minutes from the pickup zone (see map below).
Some things to know about FIFO queues:
Proximity to the terminal within the FIFO zone does not create an advantage for driver-partners or move you closer to the top of the queue.
If there are no driver-partners in the FIFO zone, trip requests will go to Uber driver-partners in the area - outside of the FIFO zone - based on proximity and other factors.
- You can lose your place in line if:
- You go offline on your Uber driver app
- You drive outside the FIFO zone
- You do not accept multiple incoming trip requests in a row
- You cancel multiple rides (if the rider cancels, you will remain at the top of the queue)
Picking up your rider
Once you accept a trip request, the pickup location at YUL is located at Door 6 on the Departures level (see map below).
On occasion, the area around Door 6 on the Departures will not be accessible due to construction or other reasons. Driver-partners are expected to follow the instructions of the airport staff in those instances.
How dropoff requests work
Dropoffs at YUL
Uber is a reliable option for travelers heading to the airport.
Based on the operating agreement with YUL, riders can be dropped off anywhere on the Departures level. If you’d like to receive a trip request afterward, you’ll need to keep the Uber Driver app on to maintain your place in the FIFO queue.
Departures for Canadian and International destinations are located at doors 1-6 on the upper (Departures) level while US departures are at doors 7-11.
We've also launched the Re-Match feature at YUL. To qualify for Re-Match, driver-partners must first complete a dropoff at the airport. Re-Match then allows any driver-partner who just completed an airport dropoff to temporarily receive a pickup request without having to go to the waiting area.
Once you drop off at the airport, if you wish, you can head towards to the waiting zone at Cellparc 2 to wait in the FIFO queue for an airport request. Upon navigation to the waiting lot, you may receive a Re-Match request.
Airport regulations prohibit loitering in the terminal area. Idling at the curb may result in a citation from airport authorities.
Pre-Match is a feature designed to help decrease your wait time and airport congestion.
The Pre-Match feature prompts partners in the waiting area to begin heading towards the pickup zone a few minutes before we anticipate a pickup request. That way, you can get as close as possible to Door 6 before receiving a pickup request, which minimizes idle time in the waiting area.
With Pre-Match, partners like you will spend less time waiting for airport trips, and more time earning.
Frequently asked questions
What vehicles are eligible for Pre-Match and Re-Match?
Pre-Match is available to uberX partners waiting in Cellparc 2. Re-Match is available to all partners and vehicle types, including uberX, uberXL and UberSELECT.
What happens if I receive a Pre-Match prompt but don't receive a trip request?
Although rare, there are times when a partner will be prompted to head to Door 6 but will then get a message in the Driver app to return to the waiting area (CellParc 2). You will not lose your place at the front of the line.
What happens if I receive a Pre-Match prompt but don't leave the waiting area?
We recommend to start driving toward Door 6 to increase the chances of getting a pickup request. Once in Pre-Match, partners are shown pickup offers based on proximity to the requesting rider, so the driver who is closest to Door 6 will receive the next pickup request.
Can I just drive toward Door 6 to qualify for Re-Match?
No. Partners will only be eligible for Re-Match after dropping off a rider at the airport.
Does Re-Match increase my wait time in the Staging Lot?
No. Re-Match reduces the number of cars in the waiting area which generally keeps the wait times even.

Helpful tips for airport trips
Getting your car ready: Air travellers can have lots of luggage with them, so you may need to free up trunk space to fit it all in.
Helping with luggage: It may take some time for riders to load their luggage into your vehicle. The airport is a busy place, so an extra set of hands can speed things up and help get your riders to their destination faster.
Keeping the airport waiting area clean: The rideshare waiting area at YUL is equipped with toilets and trash cans. The facilities at the waiting area is on YUL property and for everyone to use. Being respectful of these facilities and the grounds creates a better environment for everyone.
Identifying your riders: Asking your riders for their names before starting a trip can ensure that you've picked up the right person out of the crowd.
Making music optional: While tunes are nice to cruise to, riders may prefer silence after an early morning or late night flight. Asking them what they prefer can go a long way and help provide a great experience!
Checking the arrivals schedule: Checking the arrivals schedule at YUL can help you maximize your earnings with information about when flights will be landing at the airport and when it will be the busiest. See YUL arrivals schedule.
