Celebrating One Year Of UberX in Toronto

It’s been one year since we launched uberX in Toronto! To celebrate, let’s take a walk down memory lane and reflect on the journey.

It all started with Deadmau5 as one of our first driver-partners picking up unsuspecting fans in the city. Since then, we’ve not only given everyone in the city access to a safe, reliable, and affordable ride, but we’ve provided a flexible earning opportunity to more than 16,000 people in the GTA. Our partners have not only earned a respectable income, they’ve covered a lot of ground.

Our driver-partners are the heart and soul of Uber. People tell us that driving on the Uber platform is liberating – there’s no schedule, no boss, and better income through modern technology. Check out Pam’s story on why she drives with Uber:

Toronto’s support of uberX has been incredible. We facilitated more than 4.4 million uberX trips in the last year alone! We can’t thank our riders and driver-partners enough for the tremendous support, especially to those who’ve joined us in our pursuit to help the city draft smart ridesharing regulations.

We are always looking for ways to innovate and expand access to transportation options across the city. In the last year, we experimented with uberPOOL to help aid congestion during the Games. We also launched specialized options like uberACCESS to provide people with wheelchair-friendly transportation.

We continue to educate Canadians about the importance of making a responsible choice after a night out. We brought UberSAFE to the streets of Toronto in April to do this. Since the launch of uberX, we’re already seeing the impact that ridesharing is having on drinking and driving statistics.

While safety, reliability, and affordability remains our top priority – we still love putting a smile on our community’s face.

We launched UberEATS back in May, which delivers lunch to Torontonians from the best local restaurants within 10 minutes or less. We’ve already delivered over 40,000 meals and counting. We also offered up puppy playdates, ice cream, spring cleaning with Goodwill, and an exclusive experience with The Weeknd – all at the tap of a button.
