Introducing rebalanced rates for time and distance, designed with 3 goals in mind: increase rider demand for longer trips, improve the pickup experience, and help drivers like you make more money for your time on the road.
What’s changing
Time and distance rates
Uber Black, Black SUV, and Select driver-partners will receive higher time-based rates, balanced by lower distance rates. We expect this change to make longer trips more affordable for riders and more frequent for you.
In cities where we’ve tested these new rates, we have generally seen an increase in the average earnings per trip. Our goal is to help you see the same benefits when these changes go into effect April 16.
Paid wait time
Paid wait time rates are increasing. Riders will have more time to arrive at pickup locations, and you will get paid more for waiting. We are also increasing the cancellation fee if a rider doesn’t show up.
Offering riders increased flexibility at pickup creates a better experience for them—and a brighter earnings outlook for drivers such as yourself.
Note: paid wait time and cancellation time at airports will remain the same.
In addition to Uber Black, SUV and Select requests, you’ll be able to accept UberX and UberXL trip requests if you choose to, with the exception of Pearson International Airport, by changing your Driver Preferences.
