A lifelong learner, Biancka understands the value of knowledge-sharing with those around her, having mentors to challenge and grow your skills, and taking advantage of any and all resources available to polish your current skills and explore new ones. After 4 roles and 6 years at Uber, in Costa Rica on our Community Operations team, Biancka still loves a challenge. In addition to her work as a manager for our Safety Investigations Unit, she also leads our Women at Uber Employee Resource Group (ERG) for our Centers of Excellence and Greenlight hubs in Costa Rica.
What led you to this role at Uber?
“Perseverance and discipline are key to staying motivated and focused on clear goals. While we all have our ups and downs, it’s crucial to challenge ourselves and prove that we can achieve what we set out to do. Professional growth doesn’t have to be a solitary or dull journey—when you lean on the right people and harness your strengths, it becomes a rewarding and even enjoyable experience.”
What do you love the most about the career you’ve built at Uber?
“There are always new challenges to tackle, and endless opportunities to learn from those around you. I love that Uber is full of people eager to grow and constantly seeking advice, which gives every person at Uber the chance to share best practices with those who need them. Another important aspect is that, as a global tech company, Uber continuously pushes us to raise the bar in how we develop and deliver solutions.”
What does your day-to-day look like?
“To answer this question, I’d like to share a quote from Stephen Covey: “The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” Each day, I focus on actions that align with my top priorities—those that directly impact my role and add value to my team. As a leader, I understand that my decisions affect more than just myself; they have a direct impact on my team. While handling daily tasks, I never lose sight of the short, medium, and long-term goals. And above all, I make it a point to learn something new every day.”
What are the qualifications that have helped you to be successful?
“Success in my role comes from staying organized and structured, especially when managing the large volume of information I receive daily. Clear communication with my team, peers, managers, and stakeholders is also crucial. I prioritize honesty, transparency, and professionalism while upholding Uber’s cultural values. Lastly, a problem-solving mindset is invaluable—it’s a highly regarded trait in both the technology and service industries and brings significant benefits to any role.”
