We’re excited to announce uberPOOL is now available in Sydney! uberPOOL is the first Uber product to launch in Australia since 2015, it’s been a long time coming and we could not be happier to test out the product with Sydney-siders.

With uberPOOL, riders share their ride with others heading in a similar direction and share the cost — saving up to 50% on their trip compared to uberX. Save money on the way to work, a footy game, the beach, and everywhere in between.

We’ll be testing and making changes to this product as we go but overall uberPOOL will help Sydney move better. Our aim is to get more people in fewer cars in our cities. Fewer cars on Sydney’s roads will mean less congestion, quicker trips for everyone, and reduced CO2 emissions.

Who better to give uberPOOL a go and celebrate the launch than some of Sydney’s favourites: Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery, and Jarrad McVeigh from the Sydney Swans.

Next time you hop in an uberPOOL, you never know who might jump in along the way!

Here’s how it works.

  1. Request and wait for your pickup spot
Enter your destination and request uberPOOL. Then, wait a few minutes upfront while your trip is matched with other riders heading in a similar direction to find an efficient trip.
  2. Walk to your pickup spot
With uberPOOL, you’ll walk a short distance to a pickup spot near you – simply follow the in-app walking directions. This helps keep detours to a minimum and pickups faster for everyone.
  3. Share the ride and the cost
uberPOOL matches you with other riders heading in a similar direction. When you share the ride, you also share the cost, saving up to 50% on your trip, compared with uberX.
  4. Walk to your destination
You’ll be dropped off close to your destination. You’ll need to follow the walking directions in the app for a short walk to your chosen destination.

Efficiencies in the trip route means less downtime for drivers. Driver-partner Steve from Leichhardt was thrilled to complete uberPOOL’s first trip in Australia.

“I’m excited to complete more uberPOOL trips as it’s nice to have more people in the car. Imagine my surprise as a huge footy fan when three Swannies jump in for my first uberPOOL trip. It would be a great way to get to games since a lot of people will be heading in a similar direction.”
