After countless rides (and treats) across the country, Uber Pet is officially going national – just in time for the busiest (and furriest) travel season of the year.

Whether you’re dashing to the vet, heading to festive drinks, or off to Grandma’s for Christmas lunch, travelling with furry (or feathered) family members is easier than ever now Uber Pet is available in all cities Uber operates – from Sydney to Shepparton, Brisbane to Ballarat, Cairns to Canberra.

Riders can simply select Uber Pet in the app to match with a driver-partner who’s opted-in to have your pets onboard. It’s a win-win: riders enjoy peace of mind knowing their driver is cool with cats and dogs (and the occasional lizard), while driver-partners earn a little extra per trip for lending a helping paw.

With pet travel demand soaring over the holidays, it’s the purr-fect time for Uber to make the service available to all riders across Australia. In 2024, Christmas Day tops the charts for Uber Pet trips – with more than double the number of rides compared to any other day throughout the year. One devoted Aussie rider has clocked over 400 Uber Pet trips in a single year, proving Aussies really will go the extra mile for their mates, especially the furry ones.

Uber’s insights also reveal just how Aussies are moving with their faithful sidekicks. The most popular destinations are parks and vet clinics, with Uber Pet trips peaking between 2pm–5pm. Saturday is the biggest day for Uber Pet trips – proving the weekend really is for walkies.

And while most riders remember to bring their best friend home, some have left behind a few too many surprises this year. Uber’s 2025 Lost & Found Index revealed everything from a puppy and a kitten in a basket to a bag of exotic fish were forgotten on the back seat – a timely reminder to check before you fetch!

“Extending Uber Pet nationwide is part of our ongoing commitment to help all Aussies get from A to B – including their four-legged mates,” said Emma Foley, Managing Director of Uber Australia & New Zealand. “The summer holidays are always hectic, and this is one way we’re using technology to make life easier – giving seniors, teens, and now pet owners all over Australia the freedom to head to the beach, park or Christmas lunch without worrying about who’s driving.”

How Uber Pet works

  • Uber Pet is now available in all cities that Uber operates in as a separate product in the Uber app.
  • Simply request the Uber Pet product to be matched with a driver-partner who is eligible and willing to transport you and your furry family member.
  • A flat surcharge of $6 applies, 100% of which goes to the driver-partner.
  • If you’re travelling with a service animal, you should continue to select your regular Uber option. Assistance animals are legally allowed to go everywhere their owner goes.
