Uber partners with Legion Cabs and to launch third-party taxi integration in Sydney
Written byIn an Australian first, Uber has announced a partnership with Legion Cabs in Sydney, NSW, where Legion Cabs will be granted access to the Uber platform via a third party integration through Autocab. The move furthers Uber’s commitment to improving access to transport for riders, while giving taxi drivers the ability to complete trips with Uber.
For riders this means improved efficiency of pick-ups, as third-party taxis will help supplement existing drivers on the platform, as well as taxi supply already live on the Uber app in Sydney. When a rider orders a ride with Uber, they can be matched with a taxi, with the rider experience remaining the same. Riders will enjoy the Uber experience they are used to, including upfront pricing, in-app payment and trip support.
Additionally, as with the current taxi experience in NSW on Uber, if a rider is matched with a taxi they are notified in the app, so riders who prefer not to be picked up in a taxi can cancel their request. They also have the option to opt out of matching with taxis for future UberX trips through their app settings.
For the taxi drivers – who must meet Uber’s standard requirements to go online – this means receiving Uber trip requests in addition to existing taxi demand. This creates more earning opportunities, with the benefit of booking demand channels being centralised through their own in-vehicle dispatch systems.
“Uber and taxis are jointly transforming transportation worldwide”, said Emma Foley, Managing Director, Uber ANZ. “Our partnership with Legion Cabs and Autocab is yet another way that Uber is expanding seamless access to transport for riders, while giving more taxi drivers the opportunity to earn with our platform in Sydney. We hope this paves the way for more successful partnerships across Australia.”
The integration of Legion Cabs is now live in Sydney and can be accessed alongside all other rides via the Uber platform.
