Surge pricing
Written bySurge Pricing!
Surge pricing is enabled 24/7 in Brisbane. What is surge pricing? If demand from Uber users outpaces the supply of cars on the road, Uber’s rates will automatically increase, sometimes as high as 3x the normal rates. This ensures that riders have a reliable ride at all times and Partner Drivers maximise their earnings during busy times. You earn your percentage of the higher rate, which means more earnings in your pocket!
- At 1.5x normal rates, a $20 trip becomes $30
- At 2.0x normal rates, a $20 trip becomes $40
Do riders know about Surge Pricing?
Riders are notified of an increased price on their trip before they request (see above). Riders have the ability to obtain a fare quote within the app, so you never have to quote a rate to an Uber user.
What do Partner Drivers need to do?
Nothing. Surged fares are calculated automatically and the rider app always informs the rider of the surge level before they request a ride.
When will it happen?
We are expecting the busiest times for surge pricing to be:
Monday – Friday: 6AM to 10AM
Monday – Thursday: 5PM to 8PM & 10PM – late
Friday & Saturday nights: 5PM to 8PM & 10PM – very late
What if a rider asks about the rates?
It is best to never quote a rate to an Uber user. Riders have the ability to obtain a fare quote within the application, as well as an understanding of how surge pricing works. If riders have questions, they can reach out to us.
Won’t we lose riders due to surge pricing?
