This week, 8-14 October, is Stay Smart Online Week, marking a good chance to familiarise yourself with the best practices  to help protect against scams or anyone other than you from accessing your Uber account.

Cybersecurity awareness is important to help protect all your online accounts and information you want to keep safe. Look for services that think about data protection in the way they design customer accounts. For example, did you know Uber automatically encrypts your credit card number when you enter it in the mobile app? All but the last four digits and expiration date are hidden in the app to prevent fraudsters from stealing your credit card number from your Uber account.

While our security teams and systems work around the clock to monitor for suspicious activity on your account, following a few simple tips can strengthen your defense.

To help you secure your Uber account, we’re sharing our top security tips for Uber riders and driver-partners.

Top 5 tips from the Uber security team

  1. Use a unique password for every online account – don’t use your Uber password on any other website or service.
  2. Don’t share your password or verification code with anyone. Uber will never ask you for this information.
  3. Only add debit or credit cards you own to your Uber account.
  4. Scammers are clever. Be cautious of phone calls, text messages, and emails from anyone claiming to be an Uber employee and offering a reward or prize.
  5. If you notice any suspicious activity on your account, report it to us immediately in the mobile app or at help.uber.com. We take these reports seriously and work with financial institutions and law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute scammers.
