Tasmania is rightly famous for its fresh produce, incredible seafood, world class wine and internationally acclaimed whisky.

But for too long it’s been easier for people on the mainland to summon the best of the apple isle to their door than it is for people living in Tassie to conveniently source these locally harvested delights.

That changes today, with Uber Eats making it just as easy for Tasmanians to procure a scallop pie to their door as it is to access some of the region’s best wine. This is part of Uber Eats’ continued commitment to help Australians in more than 40 cities and towns get almost, almost anything by adding alcoholic items to the list of things you can get delivered in a few clicks.

To celebrate this newfound convenience, which links the best food and wine pairings, we’re partnering with local institution Harbour Lights Cafe in Hobart to launch a specially curated menu item that forges the best of locally sourced seafood and wine in a single dish. Their delicious scallop and wine calzone will be available for just $1 (plus delivery and service fees) for a limited time*.

“Tasmanians are known for their love of food and wine pairings, especially when it involves local delicacies like wine and scallops. We’re thrilled to partner with Uber Eats to introduce our exclusive scallop and wine calzone, just in time for the launch of alcohol delivery on the Uber Eats platform,” said Harbour Lights Cafe Manager, Grace Vu.

“This collaboration lets us showcase our culinary creativity and support local operators in Tassie by enhancing our offerings. We’re proud to use wine from local winery Devil’s Corner in this unique calzone, highlighting our commitment to quality and innovation. We can’t wait for our local community to try it.”

The special menu item will be available on Uber Eats at lunch and dinner time and sees Tasmanian scallops cooked in a mild curry sauce, with a hint of garlic, cream and local favourite Devil’s Corner Sauvignon Blanc, then encased in a crispy pizza pocket. It will be served with a lemon wedge and Harbour Lights Cafe’s fresh house salad, drizzled with a balsamic dressing.

Uber Eats is funding the majority of the ingredient and production costs to make 250 of these special calzones, usually costing $30, available for $1 from now until midnight on Sunday June 30 (unless sold out prior).

For anyone who cannot get their hands on one of these freshly made Scallop Calzones, they’re still able to celebrate this new found convenience by sourcing the best locally crafted beverages that Tasmania has to offer with $0 delivery fees on alcohol orders over $40 from participating stores on Uber Eats from now until 10PM on Sunday June 30.

A number of measures have been put in place to help ensure the process for ordering alcohol is safe. If a delivery person observes anyone is visibly intoxicated or unable to provide a valid ID, they’re prompted by the app to return the alcohol to the store and they will be paid to do so.

Uber Eats is a member of the Retail Drinks Association and partner to DrinkWise.
