There’s no doubt 2019 will go down as a milestone year for Uber.

We’ve achieved many big bold bets including listing as a public company, pivoting towards the operating system for everyday life by linking Eats, Rides and Jump in the one app, all while continuing to deepen our commitment to safety through an array of product enhancements.

Crucially as this narrative has unfolded Australia has played a significant role on the global stage. Melbourne was the first and only city outside of the United States to be unveiled as a testing ground for Uber Air. Sydney was part of the pioneering offering which welcomed public transit into the app, Perth launched UberPool and we’re increasing our footprint to build seamless connections to the people, places and moments that matter in regional Australia in hubs like Tamworth, Wagga Wagga, Mackay, Shepparton and Bathurst.

Looking back on the first ten months of 2019 a key milestone for our local team was the introduction of Uber Pro. Our loyalty program for driver-partners ensured more rewards on and off the road for Aussie drivers. While this was a leading innovation as the first to market rideshare rewards offering in Australia, it remains a leading platform because we’re committed to treating our driver-partners like VIPs – every day of the week.

To complement that, and to ensure riders and Uber Eats customers on the platform also feel like VIPs, I’m delighted to announce the arrival of Uber Rewards in Australia.

Introducing Uber Rewards

Uber Rewards is the first of its kind offering in our region and just the third market globally.

It will be free and available at scale for Uber customers inside their app across Australia by early 2020, with the first members able to sign up this week.

While being first is nice, it is more important to be the most valuable so we’ve spent a lot of time building a platform that will provide tangible value on day one.

Earning Points

Customers can earn points at home or overseas on rides with Uber and orders with Uber Eats.

On Uber Eats and UberPool you will earn one point for every eligible dollar spent.

On UberX, UberXL, Comfort and Assist you will earn two points per eligible dollar and on Uber Premier you earn triple points on the dollar.

Loyalty Levels

Like airline loyalty programs there are levels to step through on Uber Rewards.

Our first tier is Blue and available to everyone enrolled in the program. We then graduate to Gold (1,200 points) and Platinum (4,000 points) before reaching the top level – Diamond (7,500 points).

Diamond members will immediately enjoy premium phone support, price confidence on a route of their choosing and a slew of other benefits. You can explore the full range of tiered benefits below.

Chosen Rewards

As well as special benefits within the levels, customers who are Gold or above will also unlock special rewards for every 750 points customers earn.

Our foundational Chosen Rewards will let members pick one of the following four benefits –

  • 15 percent off orders with Uber Eats over a three day window,
  • 15 percent off rides with Uber over a three day period.
  • A $10 donation to Paralympics Australia in the countdown to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
  • Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn 200 Qantas Points

For Diamond members that could result in a $200 contribution towards the Australia Paralympic team effort just for riding and eating with Uber.

More to Come

My team is working hard to build even more incredible everyday Uber Rewards opportunities from the most loved brands and retailers at home and internationally.

The Uber name has become synonymous with pioneering change in the rideshare and food on demand industries, and the arrival of Uber Rewards is just another example of our dedication to offering our customers the best possible experience – be that our always on commitment to safety or the newly turned on Rewards program – on our operating system for everyday life.
