As on-demand delivery continues to play an important role in keeping communities moving, Uber remains focused on its commitment to raise the bar for safe delivery.

We know that delivery people face unique challenges on the road and earlier this year we introduced a number of new initiatives and updated our processes to support safe delivery practices in Australia.

This included the roll out of personal protective equipment, new in-app tech features such as helmet detection and education modules built specifically for the Australian market.

Throughout this focus, we have proactively worked with industry experts, the Government, partners and peers to help strengthen safety practices in the online food delivery industry.

That’s why today, we’re proud to stand side by side with our industry counterparts for the first time ever, as we launch the National Food Delivery Platform Safety Principles.

Developed by food delivery platforms in consultation with peak industry body Ai Group, these Principles outline the standards of practice that food delivery platforms have committed to, to help ensure the ongoing safety of food delivery people.

Working alongside Deliveroo, DoorDash and Menulog, we have collectively aligned on Principles to better support the challenges faced by those delivering with our platforms.

The Principles focus on safety practices including training and information, delivery equipment and personal protective equipment, support, standards and policies, consultation, and incident reporting and investigation.

Designed to complement the valuable work being done across state governments on food delivery safety, these Principles take a nationwide approach to ensure accountability across every state in Australia.

Each platform has pledged to adopt and implement these standards, while continuing to raise the bar through their own individual initiatives, technology and research.

Importantly, we will all hold ourselves accountable to these standards, with a review of the Principles and platform compliance, facilitated by Ai Group, taking place annually.

We look forward to continuing to work with our industry counterparts, in our collective mission to help keep delivery people safe on our roads.
