Cody Simpson enters his ‘Donation Era’ in latest Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive
Written byCody Simpson is officially entering a new era, and this one is all about giving back. The Australian singer-songwriter, actor and swimmer has joined forces with Uber and Australian Red Cross for the seventh annual Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive on Saturday, 18 October. The campaign invites Australians to pay forward their past fashion eras and donate quality clothes they no longer wear to Australian Red Cross, turning iconic looks into impact.
At just 28, Cody Simpson has lived many lives. From teen idol to poet, fashion entrepreneur, national swimmer, musical theatre star, and now, back to singer-songwriter, each of these chapters has been complete with outfits to match. Simpson’s journey, and style evolution, isn’t just a masterclass in reinvention: it’s a testament to his adaptability, ambition and genuine desire to follow his passions, wherever they lead.
With over 231 million pieces of clothing gathering dust in wardrobes nationwide, enough to fill 139 swimming pools*, Simpson is inspired to enter his ‘donation era’. He urges Aussies to rethink what’s hanging at the back of their closets, showing just how easy it is to trade pre-loved quality clothes for a good cause.
In the hero campaign video, Simpson sifts through his fashion archives, with pieces that once defined an era but no longer suit him. Rather than discarding these looks from his most iconic and recognisable eras, he chooses which quality outfits to donate to the Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive.
This partnership with Uber and Australian Red Cross shows how Aussies can do the same with their wardrobes, embracing their past fashion eras and diving into their own ‘donation era’.
And it’s not just talk. To support the campaign, Simpson has donated over 10 pieces of clothing from some of his most iconic style eras, including outfits from the red carpet and modelling shoots. These items will be available for purchase at Australian Red Cross Shops nationwide, ready to embark on someone else’s fashion era.
For one day only on Saturday, 18 October, Aussies can join Simpson in booking a free Uber Courier between 10am-4pm to have their pre-loved clothing collected from their doorstep, and delivered straight to Australian Red Cross Shop drop-off locations across Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
How to get involved? Gather your pre-loved items into a bag or box, no heavier than 20 kg, so it can comfortably sit in the boot of a midsize car. Then:
- Open the Uber or Uber Eats app
- Scroll to the Red Cross Clothing Drive image and tap.
- You should see ‘Red Cross Clothing Drive’ set as the drop off spot
- If you’re in an eligible city, the Red Cross Clothing Drive promotion should automatically apply, so check that the trip is showing as a $0 amount
- Confirm!
Having issues or can’t see the tile?
- Scroll down and try swiping across the images to the right
- Head to the Uber App > Courier > type in ‘Red Cross Shop’ > Pick the first option shown > Confirm
On his involvement in the campaign, Simpson said: “Like many people, I’ve explored different eras with my fashion throughout the years. Some of these outfits have been in music videos, while others were part of a very different kind of journey. The idea that someone else will now be able to wear them and give them a new life is what the Uber x Red Cross Clothing Drive is all about – letting go and giving back in the process.”
Richard Wood, Head of Retail at Australian Red Cross said, “Cody’s been a great advocate of this campaign, demonstrating even Aussie icons get nostalgic about items of clothing. Through letting go and contributing high-quality donations to this cause, our customers will benefit when they visit our Shops. This in turn helps us fund vital humanitarian programs which support Australians in need right across the country. With Uber’s support, it will be easier than ever to donate, with free pickups on Saturday, 18 October, between 10am-4pm.”
Emma Foley, Managing Director at Uber ANZ commented, “We are incredibly proud to continue our seven-year partnership with Australian Red Cross, and to make donating easier than ever through Uber’s technology, ensuring Aussies can give back seamlessly from their own doorsteps. This year, we wanted to highlight the idea that every piece of clothing has a story, and we couldn’t have found a more fitting partner to encourage Aussies to enter their ‘donation era’ than Cody. Australians have had a front-row seat to his career evolution, from his first days on YouTube to appearing on Broadway and competing on the global stage for our country. He truly embodies our mission to encourage Australians to embrace their ‘donation era’ and give a new life to quality items from their own closets.
About the research:
The research was conducted by Censuswide, among a sample of 2,000 18+ respondents in Australia & New Zealand, 1,000 nationally representative per market. The data was collected between 21.08.25 – 29.08.25.
*The research also found the average Australian has 63 items of clothing in their wardrobe, and 17.5% of these are left unworn – equating to an average of 11 unworn pieces of clothing per Australian. Multiplied by the adult Australian population of 21 million (sources here and here), this equates to a potential 231 million items of unworn clothing nationwide.
Assuming the average garment has a volume of 1.5 litres, this is enough to fill approximately 139 swimming pools (2,500 m³) and 42 Australian football fields (16,336 m² at a 0.5m depth).
