ACME is the delightful acronym of four mates who started a restaurant in Rushcutters Bay. Not just any restaurant, it is one that has transformed the common staple of pasta into something quite remarkable.

Head chef and the ‘M’ in ACME, Mitch Orr, still has to pinch himself when reflecting on the journey of the four friends, who’ve known each other for almost a decade.

Andy Emerson, Cam Fairbairn and Ed Loveday (who you might know from The Passage) complete the acronym and collectively they established the eatery in 2014.

The rustic-chic restaurant demonstrates total refinement with a concise menu which strays from its Italian roots. Pasta is the focus, but it isn’t exactly the type you might expect.

ACME Pasta Dishes

We saw a gap in the market for left of centre pasta, served outside of an Italian restaurant setting. We like to think we’re more like eating in Chinatown.” Mitch said.

You won’t find your traditional bolognese or a standard carbonara, instead you are treated to dishes like the malloreddus which compliments honey bug with peas.

The use of pigs head and egg yolk to form a macaroni pasta delivers on Mitch’s left of centre ambition and while obscure, it has proved immensely popular…but be warned, do not become accustomed to the menu.

“You’ll notice the menu changes constantly as we get bored and always want to be creating and evolving.” Mitch said.

Part of that evolution is a fourth menu that is only available on UberEATS. Coinciding with the launch of scheduled ordering, ACME now offers combo deals; one for carnivores and one for herbivores.

ACME dishes and an UberEATS bag

“UberEATS has been great, it’s an avenue for us to hit new customers and get our food out to more people.” Mitch said.

The ability to schedule an order means that UberEATS is no longer just your quick fix, it is also a solution the next time you’re hosting a party or in the case of ACME – the perfect addition to a date night at home.

You can try Mitch’s left of centre pasta through the UberEATS app.
