Your experience. Our network. Unlimited opportunity.
As a taxi driver-partner, there’s a few things you should know about earning on the Uber platform. Uber Australia has updated its vehicle eligibility requirements in Victoria, allowing taxi vehicles onto the platform and giving taxi drivers the ability to complete Taxi pickups and other trips with Uber. From the 29th November, riders will be able to book a taxi vehicle directly through the Uber App.
This change is part of a global effort to create a better experience for riders while providing new, flexible earnings opportunities for taxi driver-partners. We believe that Taxi and rideshare go hand-in-hand when it comes to providing a range of mobility solutions.
- What’s happening?
Taxi is a new ride option that allows eligible taxi driver-partners to connect with local riders needing a Taxi on the Uber app. It allows you to access more earning opportunities by adding Uber as a booking option.
- Am I eligible to take Taxi trips with the Uber app?
To take Taxi trips on the Uber platform, your taxi vehicle must:
- be ANCAP 5-Star rated, or fall under our vehicle exemption policy
- be a vehicle manufactured within the last 10 years
- seat 4 passengers plus the driver
- not be an ex-driving school, government or rebuilt vehicle
- be a 4-door car.

- Will I earn more on Taxi trips?
The minimum fare for Taxi trips is slightly higher than UberX trips. When riders book Taxi trips, they take advantage of professional vehicles with transit lane access.
- How will I be paid for these trips?
Taxi trips connect taxi driver-partners with riders who want to take trips specifically with taxi vehicles. All payments for Taxi trips on Uber will be facilitated through the Uber Driver app.
- Will I still be able to do UberX trips?
Yes. You will still be able to receive trips for UberX and other eligible products with your taxi vehicle provided that you continue to meet all other requirements.
- Why can’t taxi vehicles pick up riders from the airport?
While they can drop passengers off at the airport, taxi vehicles are not currently eligible for pick-ups from the Airport requested through the Uber app.
Airports have complex operational set-ups for each ground transport operator for airport fee payment, driver waiting, roadway usage, customer pickup and others. Given this, taxis are not able to receive airport pickups via the Uber Driver app.
If this changes in the future we will be sure to let all impacted driver-partners know.
