We’re working with the Australian Turf Club and the NSW Police to arrange an Uber pickup zone in the Randwick TAFE car park for the Everest Carnival, which spans across September and October.
Every Saturday from 29 September until 27 October, tens of thousands of people are expected at the Royal Randwick Racecourse from 11:00am – 5:30pm. We expect it to be busy as people exit the races, especially from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. NSW Police will be on the ground helping riders to make their way to the area and issuing fines for illegal pickups.
What is an Uber pickup zone?
An Uber pickup zone is an dedicated area for driver-partners to pick up riders. The aim is to make pickups at large events as safe and smooth as possible. Riders will only be able to request uberX in the zone.
What to expect on the day
For riders, there is an ‘Rider Waiting Area’ where they can wait for their driver to arrive. For driver-partners, there will be on-the-ground event staff and traffic controllers helping you connect to the correct rider.
Using a PIN for pickups
On the day, the pickup experience will be a little different than usual – we’ll be using PIN pickup technology. This just means that to make sure the right rider gets in the right car, each rider and will be given a PIN, which their driver will enter into their app. Don’t worry, our team will be there to help you connect with the right rider.
How do I get trip requests from Royal Randwick Racecourse?
You will only receive trip requests once you’re physically in the Uber Zone, so don’t worry if it seems quiet on the drive in.
Entering the Uber Zone
To access this Uber Zone, you’ll need to enter Randwick TAFE car park via King Street. Please note that there is no access to the car park from Darley Road, and NSW Police will be on site to enforce this.
Leaving the Uber Zone
To exit the car park, traffic controllers will direct cars out via either Darley Road or King Street, depending on traffic.
Picking up your rider
Once you reach the Uber Zone, you’ll be able to pick up riders from Royal Randwick Racecourse.
To pick up your rider, simply follow these steps:
