With over 5,000 partners in Portland and counting, it’s nice to take some time and get to know their stories. Through events at our Partner Support Center, volunteer opportunities and partner involvement with UberIMPACT, we’ve learned a bit more about the people who make Uber in Portland possible. Read some of their stories below:

Every week, hundreds of thousands of people in Canada trust Uber to get them around their city safely. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers, Uber makes cities more accessible – providing safe, reliable transportation options for riders while enabling economic opportunities for driver-partners. Our technology makes it possible to focus on safety for riders and drivers before, during, and after every trip in ways that others can’t.

Back in August 2016, we announced the launch of a program that allowed riders to use their commuter benefits debit card to pay for uberPOOL rides. We’re excited to share that we’ve partnered with Edenred, Ameriflex, Benefit Resource and Navia in more than a dozen cities so that more riders have the opportunity to save money when using uberPOOL to commute.

In honor of Veterans Day tomorrow, we are proud to announce that Uber will work with the White House and Joining Forces to help make life a little easier for veterans experiencing homelessness. Over the coming year, Uber will contribute an estimated 10,000 rides — a value of $125,000 — across five veterans organizations affiliated with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program to provide on-demand transportation to jobs, interviews, and other employment events. Riders and drivers will also have an opportunity to participate in this meaningful effort.

Uber is now available everywhere in Florida, and will grant expanded access to safe, reliable transportation across the state.

Kim Ruiter’s passion for entrepreneurship, sales and field hockey has led to a jam-packed career track record blooming with opportunity – from selling energy contracts on the streets to starting two businesses in the Netherlands, Kim is our new Head of Sales for Northern & Eastern Europe for Uber for Business. She’s based in Amsterdam, and she’s all for green initiatives; the thing she’s most excited about is supporting and empowering companies with their sustainability journey.

Our internal #LadyEng organization was founded in 2014 to improve the recruitment process, career opportunities, and general work environment for women engineers and other technical roles. Here, we highlight a few of our members and what they’ve been working on over the past year.
