Dear friends of Uber
Something really serious is happening in Geneva. Using outdated transport laws that pre-date the smartphone era, the Departement de la Sécurité et de l’Economie is threatening to shut down Uber in our city. This threat ignores the thousands of people in Geneva who use Uber to move around town in a reliable, safe and affordable way as well as the hundreds of drivers who make an honest living through Uber.

Geneva is one of the world’s most expensive cities to hail a taxi, so shutting down Uber will mean denying innovation and progress which is not fair.
In Geneva, there is one taxi cartel that controls 85% of the taxi market and that is not fair as it leads to inflated prices.
It is not fair for an administrative body to unilaterally decide to make this threat without any consideration, for the ongoing legal proceedings that are already in motion.
Genevan authorities bending under the pressure of an aggressive lobby rather than prioritizing the public interest, jobs and mobility is not fair.
Does this really reflect the ambitions that Mr Maudet, Conseiller in charge of Sécurity and Economy, has for the city of Geneva?
Say NO to the shutting down of Uber in Geneva and support mobility and innovation instead.
