Director, Product Management - Marketplace
Ready to ride?
Uber's mission is to reimagine the way the world moves for the better. Here, bold ideas create real-world impact, challenges drive growth, and speed fuels progress. This isn’t the kind of place where you follow a playbook — it’s where you help write one. If you’re driven by impact, energized by challenge, and ready to shape how the world moves, this is the place for you. What moves us, moves the world — let’s move it forward, together.
About the Team
The Uber Marketplace is designed to move riders & drivers efficiently from where they are to where they want to go. Every dollar that is transacted in the Uber Marketplace (driver forecasting, dynamic pricing fares, matching driver/rider pricing, and overall marketplace health) is informed and influenced by data – and our Product team decides the algorithms that enable millions of earners and consumers to ride, deliver, eat, and move daily.
Uber operates an Open Marketplace – it’s open to everybody who wants to make a living. You can drive whenever you want, wherever you want, and however you want. We offer broad access to work, and we expand mobility for riders. The freedom and flexibility that this affords is hard to understand, until you actually try it. We understand that connecting people to places and opportunities has real-world consequences, and that’s a big responsibility. Our principled approach to marketplace design helps us live up to that responsibility.
We encourage people from all backgrounds who seek the opportunity to help build a future where everyone and everything can move independently. If you have the curiosity, passion, and collaborative spirit, come work with us, and let's move the world forward together.
About the Role
Product at Uber means making big decisions without perfect information — and owning the outcomes. You’ll turn complexity into clarity at speed, navigate competing priorities, and lead through influence, not control. If you think critically, move with urgency, and want to shape the future by solving what’s hard — this is where you’ll grow.
As the Director of Product Management for Marketplace, you are at the heart of Uber’s "brain." You’ll lead a team of product leaders to allocate a multi-billion dollar annual global budget, balancing aggressive business goals with the messy reality of competitive, evolving markets. This isn't just about managing a roadmap; it’s about applying economics, machine learning, and high-stakes strategy to move millions of people and shipments daily. You will navigate the tension between short-term P&L impact and long-term algorithmic health, ensuring Uber remains the platform of choice for drivers, riders, couriers, and eaters across the globe.
What You’ll Do
- Lead through ambiguity: Drive ongoing algorithmic Marketplace decisions using cutting-edge allocation technology, often making high-stakes calls with imperfect data in a fast-paced environment.
- Scale a multi-billion dollar budget: Directly influence Uber’s P&L by leading a team to optimize global incentive investments across both Mobility and Delivery businesses.
- Build and mentor leaders: Grow a high-performing organization of Product Managers, pushing them to think boldly while channeling that energy into concrete, actionable product roadmaps.
- Navigate complex partnerships: Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Data Science, and Regional General Managers to create a vision that aligns diverse geographies and competing product categories.
- Drive "Truth-Seeking" analysis: Conduct deep-dive strategic analyses into business trends and competitive insights, embracing critical feedback to iterate on product strategy.
- Own the roadmap end-to-end: From identifying 0-to-1 product opportunities to unblocking operational obstacles that slow down delivery, you are responsible for the execution and excellence of the Marketplace experience.
- Influence without authority: Effectively present implementation and growth plans to C-level executives and stakeholders, distilling complex technical concepts into compelling narratives.
What You’ll Need
- Quantitative Foundation: Bachelor’s, M.S., or Ph.D. in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Extensive Product Leadership: 10+ years of product management experience, including a proven track record of delivering successful 0-to-1 products.
- Management Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience leading and developing other product leaders.
- Analytical Rigor: Deep experience in data analysis and a strong understanding of how product decisions impact a global P&L.
Bonus Points If
- Marketplace Expertise: Experience building and leading teams within a complex, multi-sided marketplace environment.
- Technical Depth: Familiarity with applying Machine Learning or statistical inference technologies to solve large-scale business problems.
- Strategic Background: Experience in strategy consulting, investment banking, or revenue management is a significant plus.
- Resilience & Grit: Demonstrated ability to meet conflicting prioritization demands in a matrixed organization while maintaining a high standard for execution.
Perks
- The rare opportunity to change the world such that everyone around you is using the product you built. We’re not just another social web app, we’re moving real people and assets and reinventing transportation and logistics globally.
- Sharp, motivated co-workers in a fun office environment.
