Uber Canada 2026 Lost & Found Index is here
Uber's 2026 Lost & Found Index sheds light on both the common and not-so-common items left behind by Canadian riders over the past year. Phones and wallets still top the national list, but this year's standout items include a 15-pound frozen turkey and aquarium fish and supplies in Toronto, a full set of goalie pads in Edmonton, a violin in a hard case in Montreal, and two humidifiers in Winnipeg. Someone in London, ON left behind a single bed leg and an old smoke alarm, apparently mid-errand to find replacements. We hope it worked out.
This year’s Index found that Uber XL riders are 2.6 times more likely to forget something than UberX riders. Bigger groups, more chaos, more lost stuff.
The rankings have also shifted. Saskatoon claims the title of Canada's most forgetful city, jumping from fifth last year to first. Montreal and Halifax enter the top 10. And Ottawa, Toronto, and Calgary continue their streak as the country’s least forgetful cities.
One more data point worth noting: Halloween weekend topped the list as the most forgetful stretch of the year, with October 31 and November 1 both ranking in the top three for lost item volume nationally, alongside New Year’s Day. The most forgetful hour was Sunday at 1 AM.

If you’re one of those people who left something behind, look no further than this help page, which outlines the simple steps you can take the next time you leave something behind when riding with Uber. We’re piloting a new feature in some cities in the US to use Uber Courier to request a trip to return your lost item and we expect to roll this out in Canada later this year. If you’re forgetful in the rest of your life, Uber Courier is already there to help get your keys from your friend’s place or your hoodie from your ex’s house or whatever else you need picked up or delivered.
The best way to retrieve a lost item is to call the driver - but if you leave your phone itself in your car, you can login to your account on a computer. Please note there is a $20 fee to get your items returned, and that fee goes entirely to the driver because of the inconvenience of returning the item.
Here’s what to do:
- Tap “Your Trips” and select the trip where you left something
- Scroll down and tap “Find lost item”
- Tap “Contact driver about a lost item”
- Scroll down and enter the phone number you would like to be contacted at. Tap submit.
- If you lost your personal phone, enter a friend’s phone number instead (you can do this by logging into your account on a computer, or using a friend’s phone).
- Your phone will ring and connect you directly with your driver’s mobile number.
- If your driver picks up and confirms that your item has been found, coordinate a mutually convenient time and place to meet for its return to you.
- If your driver doesn’t pick up, leave a detailed voicemail describing your item and the best way to contact you.
