Starting November 1, 2025, Uber Black operators will receive a 1 month Uber Black extension for their 2019 vehicle for every 100 economy trips taken per month, repeatable up to 12 times! All non-Uber Black rides trips will qualify (UberX, Comfort, XL, etc.).

What is the Uber Encore program?
Uber is offering a new program called Uber Encore to extend vehicle eligibility for Black, Black SUV, and Black Hourly for up to one additional year by meeting certain criteria. This is a limited pilot program at this time, applying only to drivers who received communications directly from Uber about the Uber Encore program. It is available only to commercial drivers in California with model year 2019 vehicles that are or were eligible for Black, Black SUV, or Black Hourly, and whose vehicle eligibility otherwise would expire as of November 1, 2025.
What counts as economy trips?
UberX and UberX Share, Comfort, UberX Priority, UberXL, Comfort Electric, Uber Green, and Uber Pet.
Why do I have to do economy trips to retain Black, Black SUV, and Black Hourly eligibility?
Participation in the Uber Encore program is completely optional. Economy trips are an important part of Uber’s offerings and have the highest rides volume. We are offering this program as an incentive for you to try completing economy trips. Alternatively, you could obtain eligibility for Black, Black SUV, or Black Hourly by signing up with a different eligible vehicle.
How many economy trips will qualify for a month of Black, Black SUV, and Black Hourly eligibility under the Uber Encore program?
At least 100 per calendar month.
What if I don’t complete at least 100 economy trips in a given month? Can I restore access to Uber Black trips in the next month?
Yes, you have 12 individual months in which to qualify. If you miss the trip threshold for Month 1, your Black, Black SUV, and Black Hourly eligibility for Month 2 will stop. But during Month 2, if you take at least 100 economy trips, you will regain Black, Black SUV, and Black Hourly eligibility for the remainder of Month 2 and through Month 3.
Is there any other criteria for Black, Black SUV, and Black Hourly eligibility?
Yes, the Uber Encore program is subject to all other driver and vehicle eligibility requirements for Black, Black SUV, and Black Hourly (e.g., driver rating; valid commercial permits, insurance, and other required documents; compliance with terms, including Uber’s Community Guidelines).
