With more than 2 million Uber trips completed in Electric Vehicles (EV) in the United States and Canada in 2017, Uber is committed to facilitating more sustainable transportation in Pittsburgh and other cities. By working together with driver-partners, Duquesne Light Company, and other local experts on an exciting pilot program, we’re helping to electrify more of the miles you travel.
Now, whenever riders are matched with a driver-partner in an EV in Pittsburgh, they will be notified in-app that they’re riding in an EV. Additionally, we’ve listened to driver-partners and heard their concerns about the unique limitations that driving an EV has with ridesharing and are working on specific product improvements for driver-partners with EVs.
Partnering with Duquesne Light Company to make an impact in Pittsburgh
Duquesne Light Company (DLC) has taken the lead in providing EV resources and education for the Pittsburgh area. Through our partnership with DLC, we will be able to increase access to EVs through better access to charging infrastructure and increasing opportunities for Pittsburghers to ride in electric vehicles.
“Finding ways to unlock more shared, electric and automated mobility is critical for cities to realize a more sustainable future,” said Adam Gromis, Uber’s Global Lead on Sustainability. “Through this new partnership with DLC, we can start to address this challenge at the local level and join the charge to facilitate the delivery of more EV miles throughout Pittsburgh and beyond.”
“Duquesne Light is excited to partner with Uber in the Pittsburgh region,” said Rich Riazzi, President and CEO of Duquesne Light Company. “By educating customers and installing fast charging stations, our partnership will help grow electric vehicle adoption, reduce emissions and traffic congestion, and shape Western Pennsylvania’s energy future.”
Moving forward with more sustainable transportation in mind
We hope that these efforts will help raise awareness about the important role EVs and other efforts can play in developing sustainable transportation in Pittsburgh.
Learn more about Uber’s additional commitments to working towards a more sustainable transportation by filling empty seats, partnering with transit agencies, and providing more in-app access to active options for transportation like Express POOL and Uber Bike provided by JUMP.
