Promoting Healthy Families and Workplaces Ordinance

September 24, 2020 / Philadelphia

Per local Ordinance, you may be entitled to utilize up to 14 days of paid sick leave until December 31, 2020.

Payment per day of sick leave

Earnings calculations are based on average earnings over the 6-month period prior to the date of the public health emergency. If an individual completed their first trip within the 6-month period, earnings calculations are based on the period from the individual’s first trip to the date of the public health emergency (minimum period of 14 days). If the individual did not work over such period, earnings calculations are based on a 6-month lookback from the date that sick leave is claimed. Sick leave for this group will change over time and will be updated on a weekly basis.

Individuals who average over 40 hours per week receive the greater of two weeks of pay or 112 hours.

Individuals who average fewer than 40 hours per week receive 14 times the average daily hours times average hourly compensation.

Compensation is paid out in 14 individual daily increments.

Claiming paid sick and safe time

Claims start at [4 AM PT]. You will receive lump-sum payments worth the number of days you’ve claimed. Each payment will be processed within 14 days of your claim.

Ending paid sick and safe time

Once you complete a trip or delivery, your paid time is canceled. Any unused days will be added back to your balance.

Per the ordinance, retaliation against workers who request or use sick leave is prohibited and each worker has the right to file a complaint or bring a civil action if sick leave as required by this Chapter is denied or the worker is retaliated against for requesting or taking sick leave.
