After working 8 years at one of the biggest digital retailers in Germany, Head of Uber Eats Everywhere, Michalina Pillaud, embarked on a new journey with Uber Eats in Germany to help scale the quickly growing business across the market. “You have the opportunity to wear multiple hats and take on diverse responsibilities, which not only broadens the skill set but also keeps one constantly engaged and challenged,” she shares below.
What impact do you feel you’ve had since you joined Uber 18 months ago?
“What makes Uber special is the tangibility of the outcomes of your work. Since joining Uber, I am humbled by the impact we’ve had. The Launch and Expansion team has launched 65+ cities in Germany since I joined in 2022. In those new cities, it is always very rewarding to hear from friends, acquaintances, or even family members who try our app and are happy to use it! And restaurants are enthusiastic about the ability to serve their amazing selection of tasty meals to more local eaters.
What I am particularly excited about is how the team has developed. It has almost tripled in size and now consists of exceptional individuals, who have all contributed in unique ways to our collective success. I am grateful to have been a part of their development. Together, we have created an environment that fosters growth and empowers individuals to reach their full potential through a collaborative approach and unwavering dedication.”
How do you spend the majority of your time in your role?
“As the team leader, I primarily spend my time providing guidance and support to team members to help them excel in their roles. Of course, a very important part of my role is to reflect on the winning strategy to expand our business (understanding the segment developments, and identifying opportunities for expansion). I get really excited about those topics – I really like to get on my bike and have a deep think about our challenges and opportunities as I cycle through Berlin.”
What is it like working for an industry leading US HQ company?
“I appreciate Uber for many aspects, but the 3 that stand out to me and are specific to the culture here:
- Ownership: everyone is responsible for their goals and is given means to execute on them.
- People: the caliber of talent is exceptional, I am sure I will stay in touch with many of my colleagues many years from now.
- Growth: Germany is a growth market and my team has a unique possibility to influence the growth of Uber Eats. Playing a crucial part in it is truly motivating and a great professional opportunity.”
What excites you most about scaling a business from 1 city to 100 cities?
“It is fun. It feels that we are creating opportunities for local restaurant partners, couriers and Eaters who want to discover amazing flavors from the comfort of their home, and we are successful at it. The team is fierce, creative and very motivated to make Uber Eats available across Germany.”
Why is now a great time to join our team in Germany? Why do you like your role?
“You have the opportunity to wear multiple hats and take on diverse responsibilities, which not only broadens the skill set but also keeps one constantly engaged and challenged.
There is also a dynamic and innovative environment. There is a sense of excitement and energy when the team finds creative ways to solve obstacles.
As the company expands, new roles and positions emerge, providing great opportunities for professional growth within our team of dedicated experts.”
What has been your biggest learning since joining Uber?
“Uber strikes the right balance between speed and professionalism in everything we do for the users of our app.
Since joining Uber Eats, I witnessed the effects of empowering teams and fostering a culture of effective decision-making. By empowering teams, we were able to tap into the collective expertise, creativity, and problem-solving abilities of our very talented employees.”
