Inside Uber Taipei

Uber’s HQ in Taiwan is in the heart of central Taipei and like all of our offices, was built with wellness, sustainability, and collaboration in mind. Our Taiwan office is home to over 300 employees with teams including Sales, Operations, Legal, Marketing, and Community Operations (our customer support function) having a presence here.

To learn more about our Taiwan office, we sat down with Darren Belcher from our Workplace Operations team to explore some of his favorite spaces and give you a sneak peek inside the office.

“Our Taiwan office is located in Taipei in the Xinyi District, with stunning 360 degree panoramic views across Taipei. Completed in 2022, our Taipei office offers a wide range of unique facilities, including a gaming area, collaboration spaces, private workstations, as well as two generously-stocked pantries. We also have remote shared offices in Taichung and Kaohsiung.”

“Our cafe area is my favorite space across the whole office! We provide healthy snacks and meals there for everyone as part of our WELL nourishment goals. I love seeing our Taiwan team come together here to relax and enjoy meals overlooking an incredible view of Taipei 101.”

“The library offers a peaceful space for employees to really focus and get work done. This quiet space houses workstations and a variety of comfortable sofa chairs. When you feel like you want to take a break, or clear your mind, you can take in the vibrant city scenery all around you.”

“All of the amenities in the game room for sure! It’s such a great spot to unwind. There’s a billiards table, a dartboard and a number of video games – mind you, people here can get pretty competitive when it comes to Mario Kart!”

“Our Uber Taiwan office was developed with health and wellness at the center of its design creating an optimal work environment for our employees. We are honored to have received the Gold LEED and the WELL Health Safety Rating for the new office space. 

An ever-evolving set of guidelines for architects and designers, the LEED certification encourages the construction of buildings that are not just energy-efficient but are also comfortable for occupants and have the least possible impact on the natural environment. Adopted globally by tens of thousands of buildings around the world, the LEED certification has become a benchmark for the design and construction of green buildings and homes.

WELL Health Safety Rating prioritizes occupant health and wellbeing through operating and maintenance protocols in categories of: air and water quality, health resources, emergency preparedness, stakeholder communications and cleaning procedures.

“One of the ways we support Uber’s hybrid work philosophy in the office is by providing a range of workspace options to meet everyone’s needs. We believe in working for the task at hand, not for the day, so having a wide variety of places to work is important. These include collaboration spaces, alternative workpoints, meeting rooms, cafe spaces, phone booths, and of course, workstations/desks. We have an open floor plan where desks are mostly shared rather than dedicated to individuals.

We also have neighborhoods, which is a defined area of shared workstations, conference rooms, team rooms, soft seating, and a front porch for each team to personalize. Each team/department is assigned a neighborhood in our office where employees can work and optimize their collaboration together.”

“We want to optimize our workspace in our new office as much as possible. With the growth of our business in Taiwan, we are constantly reimagining our office needs to ensure we can provide the best work spaces for everyone on any given day. Our aim is to provide a superior environment that keeps everyone happy, healthy and able to work collaboratively and creatively when they come into the office. We understand the importance of in-person collaboration for our teams to deliver and it’s our job in the Workplace Operations team to give them the right environment to enable this!”
