This New Year’s Eve we expect to deliver more than 2 million rides worldwide in just 24 hours. We’re excited to be part of this celebratory night for so many people around the world, and proud of our role in ensuring safe and reliable rides.
We expect this New Year’s Eve to be our busiest night ever.
On busy nights with peak demand – like New Year’s Eve – we use surge pricing to get enough cars on the road and help ensure you always have a reliable ride. Sometimes, we see such high demand that the number of available cars gets tight. During this time, surge pricing will automatically go into effect to encourage more drivers to get out on the road. As demand goes down and more cars free up, the rates will go back to normal.
THE BEST TIME TO RIDE
On New Year’s Eve, everyone is looking for rides at exactly the same time. We expect the highest fares between 12:30 and 04:00 AM. For the most affordable rides, request right when the ball drops at midnight or wait until later for prices to return to normal.
ALWAYS NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE
No surprises when you estimate your fare. Surprises aren’t for everyone. That’s why we’ll always notify you in BIG, BOLD print if surge pricing is in effect before you can request a ride. Enter your drop off location and tap “Fare Quote” to get an estimate of the cost of your ride.

SPLIT THE FARE
Splitting the cost of bottle service can get complicated. Sharing the ride home isn’t!
How to split your fare once you’ve requested a ride:
- Tap the “up arrow” next to your driver’s info and select “Split Fare”.
- Select the friends you’re riding with and tap “Send”.
- Your Uber-savvy friends will receive a message and taken directly to the app to confirm.
- Your friends without Uber will be asked to download the app, sign up, and confirm their share of the ride.
RIDER ETIQUETTE
Don’t be that guy/gal. Respect your Uber.
- Have 3, 4 passengers or more? Request a second uberPOP.
- Rate your driver based on your driver’s performance and quality of service. Drivers do not control the fare. If you have a question, reply to your receipt and we’ll be happy to review your fare.
- Please finish your champagne and put out your cigar before you get into the car.
YOUR PERFECT PICKUP
After a bottle of bubbly, the night may get blurry. Keep your ride crystal clear by following these steps:
- Manually enter your address so your driver knows where to meet you. Tap the address at the top of the screen to enter your location.
- Check the license plate and name of your driver at the bottom of the screen. Use this information to confirm the correct vehicle before you get in.
- Having trouble connecting? Call your driver by tapping the “up arrow” button at the bottom of your screen and select “Contact Driver”.
LOST SOMETHING?
Don’t worry, check the bottom of your receipt email for the “Click here if you lost something on this trip” link or visit riders.uber.com for your driver’s contact info. You can reach out directly to recover your lost item.
