Uber embeds safety into everything we do, which is why we’re continually looking at ways to improve safety for everyone using the Uber app. The Uber Eats National Work Health & Safety Committee is a formal way for Uber Eats to consult with Delivery People in relation to health and safety matters.

Role of the Uber Eats WHS Committee

The role of the Health and Safety Representatives and Delivery Person Representatives is to:

Provide input from the Delivery People they represent

  • Engage regularly with those Delivery People to understand and distill important WHS issues and communicate these to Uber Eats.

Provide feedback on health and safety matters

  • Provide feedback to Uber Eats on health and safety matters, including:
    • New things that could cause harm (or hazards) and risks
    • Themes and related suggestions arising from incident trends
    • Effectiveness of safety control measures
    • Suggestions/input on new safety control measures
  • Consider and make suggestions or provide feedback related to education and the promotion of work, health, and safety at Uber Eats

Participate when requested

  • Provide input and feedback related to:
    • Health and safety policies and procedures relevant to their work group
    • Changes that impact health and safety of their work group

A Health and Safety Representative has additional powers and functions. You can find further information regarding this on the Safe Work Australia’s website.

Health and Safety Representatives are elected by Delivery People and Delivery Person Representatives are chosen by Uber Eats, with the exception of 3 of the 4 Delivery Person Representative positions in Victoria which are elected by Delivery People. This is because we are unable to have Health and Safety Representatives in Victoria under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).

Health and Safety Representatives and Delivery Person Representatives are eligible to hold their position for a term of up to 3 years. If a Health and Safety Representative or Delivery Person Representative no longer meets the eligibility criteria and/or resigns from their position, an election (where necessary based on the specific vacancy) will be held as soon as practical to ensure that the vacancy is filled.

The Uber Eats National WHS Committee meets on a quarterly basis. Newly appointed Health and Safety Representatives and Delivery Person Representatives attend an induction from Uber. Health and Safety Representatives and Delivery Person Representatives are compensated for their time performing Committee duties and attending Committee meetings which are held quarterly.
