Introducing Husker Share, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s newest program with Uber

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) has teamed up with Uber for Husker Share, a new shared rides program created just for UNL students, faculty, and staff. 

With Husker Share, eligible riders can enjoy hassle-free shared Uber rides around Lincoln while saving up to 20% off standard UberX fares.

What’s Husker Share? 

Husker Share is a campus-only rideshare program, powered by Uber’s Closed Loop Share feature. 

It connects verified UNL riders heading in the same direction, allowing riders to:

• Share rides with up to two other Huskers
• Lower trip costs compared to standard UberX
• Travel within a trusted Husker-only rider network

Whether you’re heading to a late-night study session at Love Library or heading home after a night out, Husker Share offers an easy, affordable way to get around campus and the surrounding areas.

How to sign up for Husker Share

Ready to ride with your fellow Huskers? Follow these steps to enrol: 

1. Make sure you’ve got the Uber app. To ride with Husker Share, you’ll need an Uber account and the Uber app. 
2. • If you don’t have an Uber account, download the Uber app from the App Store or Google Play. Then, create your Uber account by providing the necessary details and following the app prompts. 
   • If you already have an Uber account, you’re good to go for the next step.
2. Sign up with your UNL credentials. Use your UNL credentials to access and complete this secure enrolment form.
3. Wait for verification. Once your affiliation is verified, Husker Share will show up as a ride option in your Uber app.

How to ride with Husker Share

To request a Husker Share ride, follow these steps:

• Open the app and enter your destination address in the “Where to?” field. 
• Check your pickup and dropoff locations to make sure they’re correct.
• You’ll see several ride options, including UberX, Share, and XL. To ride with Husker Share, select the Husker Share ride option. 

Note: Husker Share only allows one person per booking. If you're travelling with a mate, request an UberX to your destination instead.

• Select Choose to confirm your ride option 
• Select Confirm pickup to confirm your pickup location.

Remember: All Husker Share trips must start and end within the designated service zone.

Waiting for your driver

​​While your driver is on the way, follow these best practices:

• Use the Uber app to track when your vehicle arrives. 
• When your driver is a few minutes away, make your way to your pickup spot. 
• Once your vehicle has arrived, check your ride before getting in: make sure the licence plate number shown in your app matches the actual vehicle. Drivers will often also ask for your name before starting the trip.

• Enjoy your trip! Once your trip ends, you won’t need to worry about payment as your payment method is already linked to your Uber account. 
• Let us know how your trip went by rating your trip. You can also give your driver a compliment or leave a tip in the app. Tipping isn’t required.

• Open the Uber app and tap on Activity at the bottom of the screen.
• Select the trip where you had an issue.

Who can use Husker Share? 

Husker Share is available exclusively to University of Nebraska-Lincoln students, faculty, and staff who enrol using their UNL credentials.

How do I sign up?

Sign up via the Husker Share registration form using your UNL email and login details. Once approved, Husker Share will show up as a ride option in the Uber app.

Where can I travel?

Husker Share rides are available within the designated service zone around Lincoln. Trips must start and finish within the designated service area.

Can I ride with mates?

Husker Share only allows one rider per booking. If you’re travelling with a mate, book an UberX instead.

How many people will be on my trip?

Husker Share will pair you with up to two other individual riders, so there’ll be a maximum of three passengers from different groups in the car at any one time. Husker Share is designed to add no more than 8 minutes on average to your trip.

How much does Husker Share cost?

Shared rides can be up to 20% cheaper than standard UberX fares because riders share trips with other UNL community members heading in the same direction.

How is Husker Share different from UberX?

Husker Share lets riders share trips with other UNL community members, cutting costs while enjoying a stress-free ride.
