Kazz’s Story: Mum, Celebrant, Corporate Trainer and Uber Driver Partner.
14May,2019 / AustraliaMeet Karen.
Karen has spent the last 29 years as a corporate trainer specialising in professional sales, customer service and leadership training. However, the GFC had a big impact on many businesses, including her own. Recently, Karen decided to explore a new path by ‘popular demand’.
“Over several years, friends, family members, and people who had heard me public speaking insisted that I would make a fabulous celebrant. I recently completed my 100th wedding, and my first elopement.
“I love that my role as a celebrant is all about people and connecting with them, which is also one of the things I love about being a driver.”
— Karen, Uber Perth Partner
“Celebrancy now feels like my calling. I had no idea when I started how much it would bring to my own life, the privileged position that it gives me in my community, and in the families and lives of those who choose me as their celebrant.
“Every wedding I conduct is an opportunity to create a memory for my couples and their guests, as well as for myself. I’m looking forward to same sex marriage being legal. For me, love does not discriminate.”
Karen’s ‘offices’ are varied and include everything from parks and beaches, to backyards and family homes, and now – her own car.
“Being an Uber driver has expanded my services geographically. I know that conducting an interview, a rehearsal or a wedding can be followed with driving on the Uber platform to earn some extra money and make the journey even more worthwhile.”
Driving with Uber has helped Karen expand her celebrant business, as well as expanding her network as her passengers often leave her car asking for her contact details for their own wedding.
“I love that my role as a celebrant is all about people and connecting with them, which is also one of the things I love about being a driver.”
As a corporate trainer, Karen values great service and understands the importance of customer experience. Karen loves Uber’s two-way rating system for the accountability and transparency it provides for Uber riders and drivers alike.
“My mission with Uber is to ensure that whoever gets in my car will get out having had a positive, uplifting experience. If I can make their day lighter in some way, then I’ve made a difference. I love that I can work my own hours. Switch on, switch off, my business, my way.”
