Uber SA is supporting World Autism Awareness Day by lighting it up blue in in each of our cities!

The teams will be wearing blue, the icons on the application will be blue and throughout the day there will be a splash screen creating awareness about the cause.

What is Autism?

Autism is a term used to describe a number of developmental disabilities called Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). While the symptoms of autism vary from mild to severe, all individuals have impairments in:

  • Communication
  • Social Interaction
  • Repetitive Behaviours

There is no known cause for autism and there is no cure for autism; however, autism can be managed through early intervention therapy and effective treatment such as Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

The latest CDC statistics show that 1 in 42 boys, 1 in 189 girls and 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with autism.

World Autism Awareness Day and Light It Up Blue

In 2007, the United Nations named April 2nd as World Autism Awareness Day. To raise awareness of autism across the globe, Autism Speaks founded the Light It Up Blue campaign. Individuals, families, buildings, companies, governments and local autism organisations can participate in this campaign.
