Operating Licenses will soon be compulsory.

You may want to apply for yours immediately to avoid enforcement. If you have not started the application process, you can follow the below steps for the city you are in.

You can apply for your application receipt by having the below supporting documents:

Johannesburg & Pretoria

• Identity document (2 Certified copies)
• SARS Tax Compliance Certificate (2 certified copies)
• Proof of address – NOT OLDER THAN 3 MONTHS (2 certified copies)
• Uber Support letter (Can be retrieved at the GLH)
• Point of Origin Letter (If applicable – Can be retrieved at the GLH)

Cape Town

• Proof of address – Not older than 3 months
  • Utility Bill
  • Lease Agreement (Personal Rental)
  • Permission letter from property owner
  • Lease Agreement (Commercial Property)
• Form 10 (Can be found at the Greenlight Hub)

Why do you need an Operating License?

• An operating license authorizes you to use your eligible vehicle for the purposes of road-based public transport services.
• The operating license will reflect the details of the person who is allowed to operate the road-based public transport service, as well as the details of the vehicle it is issued for.

Why do you need an Operating License while on Uber?

• Provided all else is in order, having an operating licence will let you drive, pick up and drop off passengers without being affected by law enforcement i.e. impoundments.
• It is compulsory for you to have an operating license in order to operate on the Uber app.
