Recycle with Uber this Earth Day

Just a few years ago, the idea of requesting a ride at the tap of a button seemed impossible, yet today Uber is available in more than 400 cities around the world. From entertainment to healthcare to mobility, rapid innovation in technology is improving our daily lives.

Keeping up with the latest developments means we often gain a growing collection of retired phones, outdated laptops and old gadgets that we don’t know what to do with. In 2014 alone, 41.8 million tonnes* of e-waste containing toxins harmful to our health and environment were thrown away.

This Earth Day, on April 22, we’re teaming up with Kadıköy Municipality and Fatih Municipality to help you safely get rid of and recycle those batteries, cell phones, video game systems, and computers you no longer use – and keep them out of landfills. We will come and pick up your e-waste with our partner Intermail‘s minivans and deliver them to licensed recycling plants through municipalities.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • Open or download the Uber app
  • Request an ‘UberRECYCLE’ from 9AM – 5PM on April 22nd, Friday
  • If an ‘UberRECYCLE’ is available, an Intermail minivan will head your way to pick up your items
  • As a token of appreciation, you’ll get a thank you card that includes a promo code. When you apply the promo code on your account, you’ll get a 10 TL Uber credit discount on your next trip.

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • Recycling your technology is totally FREE
  • Each person can get only 1 trip discount for their donations
  • Find the list of approved items you can donate here. We cannot accept big home appliances such as refrigerators or washing machines. Please get in touch with the manufacturer firm or with your municipality directly in order to donate these.)
  • Some items may require extra preparation before donation, as the municipalities are not responsible for data left on any donated equipment. Please remember to remove personal data from hard drives or other storage media before having them picked up by Uber.
  • UberRECYCLE cars will be on the roads all across the city. We expect high demand throughout the campaign so if you cannot match with a car nearby at first trial, please request again later.

Let us know what you think of this initiative on Twitter, on Facebook, on Instagram or shoot us an email at yardim@uber.com

Have a great Earth Day!
