Introducing Uber Assist –  an option for riders who need additional assistance, providing experienced, highly-rated drivers who can deliver improved service.

What is Uber Assist?

Uber Assist is an option for riders who need extra assistance – passengers traveling with service animals, passengers who are visually or hearing impaired, or riders with folding wheelchairs.

Unfortunately, at this stage, the Assist category is not available for riders with an electric wheelchair.

In which cities is Uber Assist available?

Uber Assist is currently available in all cities in Romania where Uber currently operates.

How much does Uber Assist cost?

This product is priced exactly the same as UberX.

Who can join?

Uber Assist will only be available to drivers with a minimum rating of 4.85 and an eligible vehicle – see list of vehicles HERE.

How can I sign up?

If you meet the above criteria, all you need to do is complete the training HERE and activate the product in the Product Selector in the Uber app.

Once you’ve successfully completed this process, you should start getting Uber Assist requests within 24 hours.

Legal obligations of partner drivers

Service dogs
Many people rely on service dogs to get around to carry out their daily tasks. All drivers in Romania play an important role in helping people with service dogs to get around.

The Law
As an Uber driver partner, you are required by law to accept service dogs. If you are unable to accept animals for medical reasons, please speak with your local authorities to obtain an exemption certificate. Once obtained, please make sure you have it with you and show it to the passenger, clearly explaining that you are unable to complete the trip for this reason. Advise them to cancel and place a new order with another driver.

By law, passengers with service animals have the right to use any Uber product.

People with reduced mobility have a legal right to access all available forms of transportation and to be assisted whenever they need it.

• Where is Uber Assist currently available?

  Uber Assist is currently available in all cities in Romania where Uber currently operates: Bucharest, Timisoara, Iasi, Brasov, Constanta, Cluj, Sibiu, Sibiu, Craiova, Galati, Suceava, Ploiesti, Bacau, Buzau, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Oradea, Pitesti, Alba Iulia, Targu Mures, Baia Mare, Arad, Targoviste.

• How much does Uber Assist cost?

  Uber Assist is priced exactly the same as UberX.

• Will I still get UberX trips?

  YES – You’ll still get trips for other products available in the Uber app.

• Do I have to allow service animals in the car?

  Yes, whether it’s an Uber Assist, UberX, or any other Uber product available, having service animals in the car is a legal requirement.

• Do I have to be an Uber Assist driver or can I opt out?

  If you no longer want to get Uber Assist trips, you can easily opt out of Uber Assist through the Uber app – by turning off the option in the product selector.

• What vehicle do I need for Uber Assist?

  All vehicles we have selected as eligible should be able to accommodate an assistive device, such as a folding wheelchair. If your vehicle can’t safely transport the passenger’s assistive device, you can cancel your trip and turn of the product from the Product selector.

• How much help will a passenger using Uber Assist need to get in or out of the car?

  Most passengers prefer to ask before physically helping them. You could offer your arm to guide or help the passenger find their balance when walking or getting out of the seat to get into the car. For safety reasons, you should never physically lift anyone from a wheelchair.
