Uber and SINDEL have signed a historic agreement to improve protection, earnings stability, and institutional dialogue for all independent drivers and couriers in Portugal, including the ones associated with fleets. This agreement sets a new standard for the sector. All drivers and couriers who join the agreement benefit from insurance for all drivers and couriers (even for those using fleets, with coverage for accidents and injuries) and guardrails for monthly on-trip earnings, based on the national minimum wage, and independent of the amounts charged to the end user.

The subscription process is done exclusively through your Uber app to ensure seamless integration with your earnings. You cannot subscribe to these specific MoU terms via SINDEL's website or paper forms.

Simple and automatic contributions
Subscriptions are managed directly through the Uber app. Membership fees are automatically deducted from your balance, with your prior consent (and that of your fleet partner, if applicable, by means of a statement issued by the subscriber), without the need for manual transfers.
100% of the amount will be transferred to SINDEL.
You can switch between tiers or cancel at any time through the app.
Please note that, for billing stability purposes, any change in status takes 30 days to take effect.

Q: What are the available options to become unionised?
A: SINDEL provides two options: you can be either Registered or a Member. Each modality has its own benefits and earnings deductions.
Q: What are the benefits of each option?
A: As Registered in SINDEL, you will have access to insurance financed by Uber, regardless of whether you are an independent operator or a fleet courier, and earnings protection during a trip or delivery.
In addition to the benefits already mentioned, Members have access to a wide range of exclusive benefits. These include access to specialized legal support from SINDEL (applicable after a minimum of one (1) year of membership), as well as various benefits resulting from established partnerships and social support. These include, for example, the possibility of renting houses and apartments for holidays on especially advantageous conditions. All these benefits can be consulted here.
SINDEL Members are entitled to a markup on union dues in the IRS, which allows them to deduct double the amount paid (100% markup) in relation to what was effectively paid, in accordance with the applicable personal income tax legislation.
In both options, SINDEL will represent couriers and drivers in the implementation of the agreement and in matters related to the conditions of provision of activities through Uber’s platforms.
Q: How can I sign-up to become unionised?
A: The sign-up process is done by completing a form that is available on your Uber Driver app.
Q: What are the earnings deductions associated with each option?
A: The Registered option costs a monthly fee of 1.5€ (including VAT) with a minimum stay period of six (6) months. As a Member of SINDEL, the amount equates to 0.75% of monthly earnings, net of VAT and service fee (if applicable), with a minimum of €6.9 (including VAT) and a minimum six (6) months membership.
Q: How many months do I need to be Registered or a Member?
A: In both options, a minimum of six (6) months is required by SINDEL. To revoke the Registered status or Membership after that period, notice must be provided at least 30 days in advance.
Q: Is there a minimum time to be eligible for legal support?
A: Legal support is only provided in the Member option and requires at least one (1) year of membership. SINDEL may change these requirements, so you should confirm them before requesting legal support.
Q: How do the earnings protections work?
A: These protections ensure that, during the course of a trip or delivery — with a passenger/order in the vehicle, or delivering an Uber Eats order after picking it up from a restaurant or merchant — the earnings associated with the activity are not lower than the equivalent to the national minimum wage, regardless of the price paid by the consumer.
Q: How do earnings deductions work?
A: In the Registered option, a total of 9€ is deducted in the first month of registration, corresponding to the minimum 6 months associated with the module.
In the Member option, 0.75% of calendar earnings net of VAT and service fee (if applicable) will be deducted in the week following the closing of the calendar month, with a minimum of €6.9 (including VAT).
Upon subscription, we will collect your prior authorisation for the deductions, and 100% of the deducted values will be transferred to SINDEL.
Q: I am a driver/courier associated with a fleet. Can I join individually or does the fleet partner have to do it for me?
A: The decision to join is entirely yours and the process is done individually through your Uber app. However, since the payment of fees is deducted directly from the fleet account's earnings balance, it is your responsibility to request prior authorisation from your Fleet Partner so that this deduction can be made. Even if associated with a fleet, by joining, you will have full access to insurance and earnings protections.
Q: Is the initial 9€ amount in the "Registered" option refunded if I stop driving or cancel before 6 months?
A: No. In the "Registered" option, the initial fee of 9.00€ is charged in the first month and covers the mandatory minimum stay period of six (6) months defined by SINDEL. This amount is non-refundable, ensuring your institutional representation and insurance during that semester.
Q: If I decide to cancel my subscription, how should I proceed?
A: Cancellation can be managed digitally through the app. However, please note two crucial points described in the agreement:
- Loyalty Period: Cancellation only becomes effective after fulfilling the minimum 6-month registration period.
- Notice Period: To ensure billing stability, there is a 30-day notice period. If a payment cycle ends during these 30 days, you may still see a final deduction on your statement.
Q: How do deductions work if I choose to be a "Member"?
A: In the "Member" option, the fee is 0.75% of your monthly earnings net of VAT and Service Fee (if applicable), with a minimum of 6.9€/month. The deduction is calculated on calendar earnings and charged in the week following the closing of that month.

A: Although deductions appear itemised on your Uber payment statement for balance checking purposes, SINDEL is the entity responsible for issuing and sending valid proofs for tax purposes. To ensure the IRS deduction, you must use the official document issued by SINDEL.
Q: How do I receive the invoice associated with fee payments as "Registered"?
A: Invoices are issued by SINDEL, and sent to you via email by SINDEL.

Q: Does the included insurance cover any situation?
A: The insurance included in the agreement offers specific coverage for accidents and injuries that occur during the activity. This is an additional benefit financed by Uber for all subscribers (Registered and Members), regardless of whether they work independently or via a fleet.
Q: Does earnings protection apply to all the time I am "online"?
A: No. Earnings protection applies strictly to the time you are on a trip or delivery. This includes:
- In the case of Ride-hailing (TVDE), the time with a passenger or order in the vehicle.
- The Uber Eats delivery route after picking up the order from the restaurant/merchant until delivery to the final customer.
During these periods, the agreement ensures that your earnings will not be lower than the equivalent to the National Minimum Wage (hourly calculation according to Art. 271 of the Labour Code), regardless of the price paid by the end customer.
