Wellington, it’s Sevens time again. Depending on how you look at it, this is either the city’s best party or its craziest days. Rose tinted glasses or not, Uber’s here to help you get ready and get through.
Stay Safe
Uber’s number one priority is getting you around safely. Our technology is designed to bring accountability and transparency to every ride so you can always feel safe taking an Uber.
Follow these tips to ensure a 5-Star Uber experience:
- Confirm you’re getting in the right Uber. Double check the license plate number matches the car’s plate and photo matches the driver. Confirm your driver’s name and tell him or her your name before riding.
- Need to contact your driver? You can do this by selecting the arrow on the bottom right corner of the screen. From that menu, select ‘Contact Driver’. Then, you can choose whether to call or SMS.
- Share your journey in real time. You can use the “Share My ETA” feature to send your friends or family a map of your route and expected time of arrival, if you’d like.
- Provide feedback. Our feedback loop asks riders to rate every trip. We use that information to evaluate our driver partners.
- Detailed receipts. Every Uber receipt includes your driver’s name, photo and route information from pickup to drop off. Your receipt is your detailed guide to your trip. Additional questions? Lost something? Just reply to your receipt and a member of our support team will follow up shortly!
Pin It To Win It
Yeah, we know this might induce more than a few “duhs,” but with road closures in place for the Sevens, taking a few seconds to make sure your pin is dropped in the right place — or better yet, entering your pickup address — can save time and headaches. Double check the pin is on the blue dot by pressing the little bullseye button located on the bottom left corner of your screen. Also, ensure your pickup location allows you to spot your driver, and has enough room for your driver to stop safely.
*Pro Tip: Entering your destination ahead of time makes everyone’s life easier. And, in case you were wondering: drivers can’t see your destination before accepting a request.
Follow The (Uber) Golden Rule
The same rules from grade school apply. Please treat your driver (and their car) with care. It’s their own personal property, and let’s be honest: that greasy pizza can wait.
*Pro Tip: Even if you needed to be at your location, like, yesterday, please don’t encourage your driver to break road rules to get you there. They’re there for everyone’s safety.
Dynamic Pricing
Our goal is to be as reliable as possible at all times, even when big events like the Sevens are on. Sometimes we see such high demand that our supply of available cars gets tight. To ensure we have rides available for everyone who needs one, we utilise Dynamic Pricing which increases our rates incrementally as our demand outstrips our supply and then lowers them back to normal as demand goes down and cars free up. We take notifying you of the current rates seriously – you should absolutely be aware if rates are higher than normal.
Don’t forget – you’ll always be notified in advance and have multiple opportunities to confirm any increased rates. You can also always estimate your fare before requesting. Here’s a video that explains what dynamic pricing looks like in the app.
