Handle Uber Eats orders safely

These guidelines help make every order a great one. They also help build trust among delivery partners, Uber Eats order requestors, and your favorite neighborhood restaurants or other establishments.

Restaurants and other establishments are expected to meet all relevant licensing requirements and all other food laws and regulations—including food safety and hygiene regulations—and industry best practices and Uber policies. Restaurants and other establishments must maintain valid applicable licenses and/or permits.

  • Many prepared foods are perishable and can cause illness if not properly handled. Such foods can be potentially hazardous if not maintained under the proper time and temperature controls prior to pickup.

To help ensure that food reaches Uber Eats order requestors safely, you’re encouraged to seal packages in tamper-evident packaging ahead of delivery.

You’re expected to act responsibly on information provided by Uber Eats order requestors related to food allergies, intolerances or other dietary restrictions and reject order requests with which you cannot comply.

Restaurants and other establishments may outline certain delivery guidelines that promote food safety, adhere to regulatory guidance or accommodate Uber Eats order requestor dietary restrictions. For example, restaurants and other establishments may notify a delivery partner to keep halal and non-halal food separate. Delivery partners should always take into consideration such guidelines from restaurants and other establishments.

Remember that delivery partners provide independent services by taking food or other items from restaurants and other establishments to Uber Eats order requestors, and that not following these guidelines can lead to considerable damage to Uber Eats order requestors by delivery partners and restaurants or other establishments.

  • An insulated bag can make for a better Uber Eats order requestor experience. Be sure to check the specific bag requirements in your delivery city. Deliveries by bicycle may benefit from a more specialized bag to protect food from movement and weather conditions.

Delivery partners should deliver orders safely and in accordance with relevant safety standards and any delivery guidelines, notes or requests provided by restaurants and other establishments and/or Uber Eats order requestors. For example, an Uber Eats order requestor may request delivery outside a building, or a restaurant or other establishment may request that delivery partners remove their backpacks in confined spaces. As another example, don’t tamper with or open packaging during delivery. This can lead to foreign matter in food, which may pose a significant food safety risk for Uber Eats order requestors.

Upon entering a restaurant or other establishment, remove helmets, balaclavas or any other item that may bother diners and/or staff of the restaurant, establishment or shopping plaza. Keep a good image when picking up orders and when making deliveries. Introduce yourself to the staff of a restaurant or other establishment and tell them the order you have come to pick up. It is very useful to bring an official document with you, in order to identify yourself, if necessary. Wait for the order in a space where it does not interfere with the operation of the restaurant or other establishment.

Restaurants and other establishments should provide a safe area for order pickups that make delivery partners feel welcome.

Only Uber Eats order requestors who are the legal age to buy alcohol can order and receive alcohol deliveries where available. Delivery partners are responsible for following local requirements for alcohol delivery, which often include asking Uber Eats order requestors to show their ID, refusing delivery if an Uber Eats order requestor is underage and returning alcohol that is undeliverable to the restaurant or other establishment.

If an Uber Eats order requestor has problems with their order, we recommend they contact the delivery partner that has agreed to deliver the order. We recommend that Uber Eats order requestors provide clear references for delivery and remember that delivery partners are not familiar with an Uber Eats order requestor’s address and that some recommendations may be key to timely food delivery. Remember that providing tips is voluntary; however, this does not imply demanding something additional to the delivery service, but instead will be highly appreciated by the delivery partner.
