Driver requirements

Uber is a great way to be your own boss and earn great money. From a commercial license to a car, Uber can help you every step of the way.

Check what opportunities you have to cooperate with the Uber app

Driver under a Fleet Partner

You’re a driver working under a licensed fleet partner. This means:

  • The fleet partner owns a business license to operate a taxi service and vehicle(s)
  • You’ve agreed on payment and working terms with them
  • You’ll drive using their business licence

Independent Driver

You’re a self-employed driver who:

  • Has a valid taxi driver's license and operates a vehicle, whether owned or rented
  • Drives independently, without relying on fleet partners

Fleet Partner

You’re a business owner with a valid trade license to operate a taxi service and a valid tax registration who:

  • Manages one or more vehicles, or provides the taxi license for drivers with their own cars
  • Provides access to these vehicles to other drivers
  • Coordinates and supports their operations through the Uber platform

General Personal Requirements (Valid Nationwide)

These are the fundamental prerequisites you must meet to even apply for the taxi driver profession, regardless of the city:

  • Age - Minimum 21 years old.
  • Driving License - A valid "B" category driving license held for at least 2 years.
  • Medical Fitness - Must obtain a Group 2 medical fitness certificate (code 102 in the driving license). Note: Issued by a general practitioner or occupational health physician.
  • Psychological Fitness - Successful completion of the PÁV II. category Psychological Aptitude Test. Note: This is conducted by the Centre for Transport Aptitude and Examinations (KAV).

Professional Qualification (Where the City Matters!)

The key to becoming a licensed taxi driver is obtaining the Professional Qualification Certificate for Passenger Taxi Drivers

1. Professional Course and Exam

  • You must attend a professional training course offered by a licensed driving school.
  • The overall exam consists of theoretical, practical, and oral parts, covering: traffic rules, vehicle maintenance, customer service, contracting conditions, and driving practice.
  • The most important local difference is the Local Knowledge Exam

2. The Principle of Territorial Scope

Your final taxi driver's license grants you the right to operate as a taxi driver only in the county or area for which you passed the local knowledge exam.

  • Budapest - Budapest and Pest County
  • Miskolc - Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County
  • Debrecen - Hajdú-Bihar County
  • Szeged - Csongrád-Csanád County

3. Extending Your Area of Operation

If you pass the exam for one area (e.g., Debrecen) but later wish to work in another (e.g., Budapest), you must take a supplementary/extension exam (kiterjesztő vizsga) for the new territory's local knowledge.

If you already found a fleet partner, it's time for the next step – your vehicle. If you're using a car provided by your fleet partner, you don’t need to worry about the paperwork – the partner will handle the registration and documents.
