Staff Software Engineer

About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Batch data platform team, you will play a critical role in driving Uber’s batch data infrastructure to the cloud. You’ll be responsible for building scalable, reliable systems that automate dataset replication, orchestrate workload migrations, and ensure data integrity and performance across hybrid environments. You will collaborate with infra, platform, and product teams to migrate hundreds of PBs of data and thousands of pipelines, minimizing customer impact and ensuring strong observability and resilience during the transition. This role is central to delivering on Uber’s long-term cost, performance, and scalability goals.

What you'll do

  1. Lead initiatives through all stages of the project lifecycle, from ideation and design to project planning and execution, by understanding business requirements and providing effective solutions.
  2. Develop and document high-quality code to address strategically important problems.
  3. Productionise systems across Uber’s fleet while carefully monitoring and evolving the solutions based on production data.
  4. Foster collaboration across multiple teams to achieve successful delivery of projects.
  5. Mentor engineers to cultivate their leadership capabilities.
  6. Represent the team in both internal and external forums.

What you'll Need

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  2. Experience programming in multiple languages such as Go, Java, Python, C/C++
  3. 10+ years of experience in low-level systems, distributed systems, or similar technologies.
  4. Background in Big Data technologies and large-scale backend infrastructure.

  1. Experience in GenAI or LLM technologies.
  2. Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP or Azure.
