About the Role

3P or (third party integrations) are critical to Uber’s broader company strategy, and Payments plays a central role in enabling it. In the 3P (third-party) integration landscape, Payments is one of the major building-blocks for a successful integration. Integration of Payments in 3P has evolved significantly, requiring a shift from bespoke, high-touch engineering efforts to a scalable, building-block approach. This is critical to Uber’s broader company strategy, and Payments plays a central role in enabling it.

As part of the Payment 3P team, you will have direct responsibility for those systems and processes. You will take ownership of key features and initiatives in crafting and leading a team to build high quality, scalable systems in making paying on our platform reliable and efficient. Your work will directly impact the lives of Uber’s users across the globe.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. You will identify, prioritize, scope and deliver projects and systems that deliver payment solutions to new lines of business via 3P integrations. For example, this means that Uber integrates their application inside a 3rd party, or the other way around.
  2. You will ideate, build, improve and operationalize systems to a standard that dependent teams are eager to take ownership of the capability that you pioneered.
  3. This role requires very extensive collaboration with various teams that own specific systems in the Payments ecosystem.
  4. In partnership with your product manager, you will engage with critical stakeholders to mutually ideate, intake, prioritize, plan and deliver projects that move our whole business.
  5. You will work everyday to attract, retain and grow strong engineering leaders, across every competency that it takes to succeed at Uber.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. Strong people skills but also deeply technical. There is no need to code as you will have strong engineers to rely on, but you'll need to have an in-depth understanding of technical architecture, system design, and problem solving acuity to own sophisticated technical challenges.
  2. 12+ years in the industry with a minimum of 4+ years of experience leading the development of high performing engineering teams across large-scale distributed production environments. Track record of delivering outstanding business impact over multiple quarters.
  3. Experience working with multi-functional, globally distributed teams to coordinate work and deliver solutions that span multiple teams.
  4. Collaboration with PMs, designers, data scientists and platform teams to identify, prioritize and solve problems.
  5. Track record of supporting team actively via career mentor & development, handling performance & conflicts, and influencing cross-functional teams.
  6. Track record of building strong context through sharing information and goals to push down decision-making to the team.
  7. Track record of managing, recruiting, and retaining strong engineering talent and growing effective teams.

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. Technical expertise in both server-side and mobile engineering.
  2. Domain knowledge in Payment systems and industry.
  3. Leadership experience in a product team and/or a growth team.
  4. Experience working in fast paced environments with dynamic product requirements.
  5. Strong understanding and proven track record of using frontier AI models (Gemini, Claude Code, Cursor) and applying this to your day-to-day activities.
