Staff Technical Program Manager

Technical Program Manager, Engineering
in Bangalore, India

About the Role

Uber is building the world’s best and biggest marketplace for on-demand delivery of all local commerce. What began with a focus on restaurant delivery has rapidly expanded to include groceries, convenience, alcohol, pharmacy and retail, with big ambitions beyond.

Uber’s Selection & Fulfillment org is at the center of this selection flywheel. This team owns the Merchant, Consumer, Catalog and Fulfillment flows that power Uber’s end-to-end delivery marketplace. Incremental improvements to the products and technology in this space deliver outsized, multiplier impact to the end customer experience our users interact with every day in the Uber app.

As a Sr. Technical Program Manager for Selection & Fulfillment, you’ll structure and drive high-impact, cross-org initiatives that step-change Uber’s end-to-end Delivery marketplace objectives. You will own the program space and work closely with engineering, product and business leads to ensure its success.

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Develop overall program strategy, defining the objectives, KPIs and milestones against which teams will execute and measure success.
  2. Engage and energize teams to deliver efficiently on program goals. Tactically, partner with tech and business leads to discover and drive opportunities for improvement that come from data analysis, merchant insights, and new process / product design.
  3. Be the subject matter expert. Develop broad domain and technical expertise, understanding the ins and outs of merchant onboarding flows, how new merchant and catalog catalog data is ingested and interacts with Uber platform features. Build documentation that distills and scales this expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Elevate technical implementation at the architecture level, proposing technical design alternatives when necessary. Ask questions that clarify priorities and help engineering balance design quality with velocity.
  5. Help reduce exposure to classic failure models across teams, processes and systems (e.g., requirements not sufficiently understood or documented, ineffective cross-team collaboration, long-term impact(s) from third-party solutions, insufficient stakeholder review, etc).
  6. Proactively identify, mitigate and escalate risks before they become roadblocks.
  7. Design, implement and govern KPI reporting that improves visibility into, and accountability for, program progress and performance.
  8. Own communication with tech and business leadership and executives that impacts critical company-wide objectives.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. Minimum of 7+ years experience as a TPM, PgM or PM in a tech environment with a proven track record driving successful programs / products with cross-org accountability and impact.
  2. Strong technical aptitude. You quickly grasp technical design concepts, challenges, and risks. Engineers enjoy working closely with you.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You clearly articulate complex problems and priorities across both tech and non-tech audiences. You lean into written documentation to bring clarity and efficiency to decision making and process.
  4. Strong bias for action. Amid ambiguity, you truth seek and marry problems with solutions. You dig deep into data and speak directly to customers to understand the root cause of a problem before working backward to devise an informed solution.
  5. Ability to lead through influence. You form a vision and make owners out of stakeholders. You excel at identifying process gaps, quantifying and tracking progress, and balancing execution speed with design quality and process overhead.
  6. SQL Proficient. You have hands-on experience, are able to troubleshoot and self-serve answers to your own queries.

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. Experience with LLMs
  2. Experience working with product or merchant catalogs in an e-commerce or retail environment
  3. Built standards and frameworks adopted by large engineering organizations.
