Sr Technical Program Manager
About the Role
Uber’s Risk systems operate at a global scale, making billions of real‑time decisions daily to mitigate fraud/abuse . Risk team designs systems that balance sophisticated security with a seamless experience, to maintain marketplace integrity while minimizing friction for millions of legitimate users worldwide.
This role sits within one of Uber’s core pillars. You’ll be at the center of fraud-fighting research, processing $200B in payments. You will work in a high-innovation environment alongside ML and Data Science teams to protect the marketplace from both human and automated (bot) fraud.
What the Candidate Will Do:
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex, high-impact technical programs from initial concept through launch and ongoing iteration with a focus on Risk, Fraud, Trust and Safety.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Product, Data Science, Legal, Business Development, Product Operations and Compliance teams to design and implement scalable, secure, and compliant solutions that meet both the needs of the demand clients and supply resources of the digital marketplace to complete digital tasks
- Proactively identify risks, bottlenecks, and dependencies, resolve issues before they impact timelines or quality of delivery.
- Drive cross-functional strategic planning processes, including defining program scope, aligning on priorities, managing resources, and communicating tradeoffs to stakeholders.
- Establish clear success metrics and tracking mechanisms to ensure programs deliver measurable business value.
- Act as a central point of coordination across global and regional teams, aligning efforts and ensuring consistent execution across multiple work streams.
- Champion operational excellence by continuously improving program delivery frameworks, communication channels, and team collaboration models.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager or Engineering Manager in software or systems development.
- Proven success in managing end-to-end delivery of technical programs in the Trust, Safety and Insurance or related domains.
- Strong technical acumen, with experience in distributed systems and microservice architectures.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders and drive alignment.
- Mastery of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record of launching critical products, ideally in Risk, Fraud, Payments, Trust and Safety or other regulated industries.
- Deep understanding of Risk, Fraud, or Trust & Safety space, specifically dealing with consumer, earner and marketplace risk.
- Experience navigating regulatory and compliance frameworks would be good to have.
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, adept at defining and tracking program KPIs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large, cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Skilled in strategic planning, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
- Exceptional multitasking and prioritization abilities across concurrent projects.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$180,000 per year - USD$200,000 per year.
